Mr. Brewer co-founded Bickel & Brewer in 1984. Since that time he has earned a nationwide reputation as one of the most aggressive and successful lawyers in the United States practicing exclusively in the field of complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution.

Under Mr. Brewer’s direction, Bickel & Brewer has become renowned for its innovative handling of major disputes in the hospitality industry. For the past decade, Bickel & Brewer has represented hotel franchisors, management companies, owners, developers and investors in the highest profile litigation in the hospitality industry.

Mr. Brewer is a noted lecturer and author on legal issues affecting the hospitality industry. Bickel & Brewer has been a featured participant at every New York University Hospitality Industry Investment Conference since 1992. In 1997, Bickel & Brewer inaugurated the Hospitality Law Institute, a national conference that addresses current issues which challenge the business environments of hotel and gaming enterprises. Since its inception, this conference – previously held in conjunction with the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management and the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University – has earned widespread recognition for its track record of accurately predicting the trends and claims that will shape the industry’s legal landscape.

In further support of his commitment to executive education in the hospitality industry, Mr. Brewer serves as an editorial board member of HotelExecutive.com and the Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly, the flagship scholastic publication of the Cornell Hotel School. He is a member of several industry associations, including the American Hotel & Motel Association and the Academy of Hospitality Industry Attorneys (AHIA). Mr. Brewer has been a member of the AHIA since its inception and he recently served as co-chairman of the organization’s Fall Conference.

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Mr. Brewer received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from St. John’s University in 1974, followed in 1977, by his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Albany Law School of Union University. Thereafter, Mr. Brewer attended New York University School of Law where he received a Master of Laws in Trade Regulation in 1978. Mr. Brewer is admitted to practice in Texas and New York, as well as numerous federal district courts and the Courts of Appeal for the Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Federal Circuits. He is a member of various philanthropic organizations, including the New York City Partnership, the Board of Trustees of Albany Law School and the board of directors of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund. Mr. Brewer is also co-chairman of the board of the Bickel & Brewer Foundation, a non-profit foundation funded by companies, individuals and the national litigation firm of Bickel & Brewer that has achieved widespread recognition for its efforts to create, fund and manage a variety of educational outreach programs.

Mr. Brewer has received numerous awards and honors within the legal and civic community. In 2004, he was voted one of "the best lawyers in Texas" in a survey of his peers that was published in Texas Monthly magazine. This same year, he was named by the Dallas Business Journal as one of the top corporate philanthropists in Dallas.
