Insider: Maintain Your Way to a Pest-Free 2007

By Frank Meek, B.C.E., Technical Director, Orkin, Inc.

Mr. Frank Meek

When a New Year rolls around, many hoteliers add “increasing our clientele” to their list of New Year’s resolutions.  Efforts to keep pest problems – from bedbugs to flies to cockroaches – from increasing along with new business rarely make the list.

To help hotels achieve their New Year’s resolutions and protect their bottom line, I recommend adding another resolution to your list: “commit my hotel to regular facility maintenance techniques to prevent pests from ever setting foot (or leg) in my establishment.”  Facility maintenance techniques, like exclusion, air flow, landscaping and lighting, can help prevent pests without the use of chemical treatments.

In my article in this week's Hotel Business Review "Maintain Your Way to a Pest-Free 2007", I offer simple facility maintenance tips that hoteliers can implement with their pest management professionals.  By making sure your hotel offers guests a pest-free stay, you can ensure that the only clientele you’ll see in 2007 is the two-legged kind.

Sincerely,

Frank Meek, B.C.E.
