Insider: Congress, Energy Issues & Your Hotel

By Steve Kiesner, Director of National Accounts, Edison Electric Institute

Mr. Steven Kiesner
Mr. Steven Kiesner

The country’s steadily growing demand for energy will continue to present challenges for the country.  Two energy-related issues in particular—rising prices and global climate change—will demand the more efficient use of energy by everyone.  In my article, “Congress, Energy Issues & Your Hotel”, in the Hotel Business Review you’ll learn about the country’s new energy legislation and how it will affect your hotel.  You’ll also find out more about how the nation’s electric companies can help you improve your hotel’s energy efficiency.

On behalf of Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the national association of shareholder-owned electric utility companies, I encourage you to work more closely with your electricity provider to manage your energy use.  EEI's National Accounts program focuses on the unique and growing needs of those utility customers such as hotels with multiple sites or outlets, including "chains" and franchise operations.

EEI's National Accounts Program can also help you to develop efficient energy management strategies by bringing new, cutting-edge technologies into commercial use.

By Jeffrey Catrett, Dean, Les Roches School of Hospitality Management, Kendall College, Chicago

The War Generation, raised on Depression and World War, may have accepted somewhat stoically the difficulties of navigating through an America accustomed to focusing on youth culture, but Baby Boomers have never yet accepted anything anyone has tried to impose upon them and have had the economic might to get their way. As 78 million consumers enter their later years, expect to see sweeping changes in the treatment of greying populations...
