One of the things I love about my job is the constant vigilance you need to keep track of shifting trends.  Remember social media?  I kid, but like everything else in this industry, engagement tactics are liable to change overnight.

As you continue pushing forward innovative marketing plans, you must take into consideration how users behave, their purchase path and find new and unique ways to engage them. Some of these strategies are new, and some of them are taking an older communication format and making it significantly better. My article “Five Very Effective Ways to Engage Online Consumers“ in the Hotel Business Review will detail the top five ways to engage online consumers as well as give you actionable steps to add these engagement tactics to your campaigns.

For example, there are new ways to target users’ behavior, through targeted media buys and re-messaging – your new best friend. A smart re-messaging strategy could very easily double or triple your conversion rate for some channels.  The idea is simple – if you have already initiated a relationship with a consumer it is easier to prove your value as a brand thus increasing the likelihood of conversion or providing qualified brand awareness.

Furthermore, email is not dead, and when employed correctly can add a great deal to your relationship with your customer and your bottom line. Mobile is another venue for reaching customers. It is really not as daunting as it may seem at first. I will detail some tactics for success in email and mobile marketing in this column.

Possibly the most important thing to keep in mind is measurement. Even if you already have an analytics package in place, there are likely ways you can be using this information in a more thorough way. Whether you are utilizing a complex service like Coremetrics or Omniture, or one of the free analytics services, read on to see how you can not just engage more users this year, but turn them into loyal customers and measure your growing success.

Hotel Parking Asset Management: Maximize the Value of Your Real Estate

By Joshua Miller, Principal and Managing Director, Niche Advisors

While hotels spend tremendous time and energy looking for strategic ways to make the most of their operation, they often fail to look at the fact that the property sits in the middle of a large parking facility. This facility often takes up as much real estate as the hotel itself, but because parking is outside of the core focus of the industry, hotel parking facilities are rarely strategically managed...
