New Graduates at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne

LAUSANNE, 9 February 2010 - The dates of 3 and 5 February will be forever engraved in the minds of the 174 students of the Bachelor Programme and the Diploma of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL). In two distinct graduation ceremonies held last Wednesday and Friday, the students received their qualifications following two years study for Diploma students and four years of study for Bachelor Programme students.

Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management (DHR) Programme Graduations

The ceremony held on 3 February brought to a close the Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management programme, a new intensive training course that comprises two semesters on campus, alternated with two six-month internships in the branch. Certificates were awarded to 26 of the 34 students in the French and English language sections (76% of candidates) at this first graduation ceremony of the new programme, which was launched in February 2008.

3rd ranked student: Ms Anastasia Soldatova, Russia, English language section

During this first graduation ceremony for DHR students a prize based on a start-up project for an enterprise was awarded to one of the students. The winner was evaluated by experts from the hospitality and financial sectors. They judged all the projects and awarded the first prize to Ms Anastasia Soldatova for her project entitled "La Galerie". This is a project for a boutique hotel with 44 rooms in Lausanne, including a gastronomic restaurant and an art gallery to supply a third source of income.The level of professionalism and creativity shown in the Business Plan and the Internet site were especially mentioned by the experts.

The Bachelor in International Hospitality Management Programme Graduations

During the ceremony that took place on 5 February, 148 students from the French and English language sections received their diplomas (meaning 100% of the candidates). This programme provides double accreditation, on one hand from the University of Applied Sciences (HES), delivered by the Swiss Confederation, and on the other a Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management, from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in the United States.

The EHL Spirit Prize

As tradition demands since 2000, the EHL Spirit Prize – awarded by the Director of the Alumni Relations and Career Centre – rewards students who, during their studies at EHL, have especially invested time and energy for the good of the School and its students. Its particularity resides in the fact that it is the students themselves who elect one of their classmates.

Prize for Social Responsibility

Introduced in 2009, the Prize for Social Responsibility for EHL Graduates rewards a student who has shown their commitment to sustainable development during their studies and who has signed the Student Charter for Social Responsibility. By taking this step, students undertake to voluntarily adopt responsible behaviour in their future career. The winner of this prize will be able to select an organisation to which Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Hotels will remit £ 5,000 in their name.
