Nicole La Valette Appointed DoSM for Battery Park Ritz-Carlton in New York

NEW YORK, NY - (February 16, 2010) - Nicole La Valette has been named Director of Sales and Marketing for The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park. La Valette brings a solid background in sales leadership and marketing. Previously, La Valette held the positions of Director of Sales at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman (2005-2009), Sales & Marketing Manager at Wyndham’s Grand Cayman Resort (2004-2005), General Manager at the Cayman Islands Tourism Association (2001-2004), and Marketing & Events Manager for the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand (1998-2000). Originally from Germany, she is a graduate of the University of Auckland, New Zealand where she received her Masters Degree, Marketing and International Business

“I love New York’s energy especially since for the past seven years I lived on a tropical island with a population of merely 40,000 people. New York continues to evolve; nothing tops the culture and uniqueness in this city,” said La Valette. “There’s no doubt we face a challenging economic environment. The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park has a competitive edge thanks to the fact it is the only AAA Five Diamond property below 55th street, its panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York Harbor, and a recently completed $10 million renovation.”

When The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park opened in January 2002, its effect was much greater than was ever imagined by its developers, architects and designers – it provided a timely economic boost to Lower Manhattan and the first visible sign of renewal in a neighborhood that has long held a special place in the hearts of New Yorkers. The property is a downtown oasis that serves as a second-home to business leaders, families and couples looking for a romantic getaway.

To say La Valette lives life to the fullest is an understatement; favorite pastimes include squash, running, yoga, scuba diving, and adventure sports. She resides with her husband on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
