Best Western Inn of Longwood Medical GM Recognized by MLA

'Stars of the Industry' General Manager of the Year Award

March 4, 2010 - Brian Stiglets, general manager of the Best Western Boston Inn at Longwood Medical, was recently honored with the 'Stars of the Industry' Outstanding General Manager of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Lodging Association (MLA).

The award honors a general manager who has demonstrated professionalism in operating a lodging property and taken a leadership role in the industry by actively participating in association, community, or industry programs.

The MLA is comprised of more than 400 active property members, which include hotels, motels, resorts, inns and bed and breakfasts, comprising more than 35,000 rooms. All winners are submitted to national nomination for the AH&LA Stars of the Industry Awards, which parallel the MLA awards.

“We are very pleased with Brian’s commitment to the hotel, and his recent honor as General Manager of the Year Award,” said Gayle Sinclair, director of sales and marketing for the Best Western Inn of Logwood Medical. “His strong leadership skills and dedication to the hospitality industry are a great asset to our property. We are proud of his achievements.”

In addition, the Best Western Inn at Longwood had another employee, Tenzin Konchok, nominated for the Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year. This award recognizes exemplary service by a non-management employee who goes above and beyond normal job responsibilities.

Nominees are judged on outstanding and unusual service to the property, guests, and community along with a group nomination for Charitable Works – Community Service – which recognizes a program that demonstrates responsiveness to the local community and its residents.

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
