Grand Pacific to Manage the Mountain Retreat Resort

Arnold, California

CARLSBAD, CA - August 9, 2010 - Grand Pacific Resort Management (GPRM), a privately owned vacation ownership management company located in Carlsbad, CA has been awarded the contract to manage the Mountain Retreat Resort in Arnold, CA.

Mountain Retreat, an RCI Gold Crown Resort, is nestled in the quiet Sierra pines of Arnold, California in Calaveras County, 2-4 hours drive from Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and the San Francisco Bay area. Purpose-built in 1982, the resort features duplex mountain-style units with numerous entries and configurations that afford optimum privacy.

The original developer, Tom Porter of Deerwood Corporation, has been managing the property since its inception. GPRM has begun providing resort management services with a gradual transition as of August 1.

According to GPRM Vice President - Operations Nigel Lobo, the contract with Mountain Retreats marks a new beginning. “As we’ve expanded our horizons more resorts and homeowners associations know we are also fully equipped to help them enjoy the rewards our industry has to offer. Grand Pacific Resort Management is backed with over twenty years of experience and can provide all the necessary resources to deliver new options in resort development and management services.”

Tom Porter, who is part of the original team who developed the resort and who has been managing the property for almost three decades, says, “We were moved by Grand Pacific Resort’s commitment to manage the resort as if it were their very own. It has been operated by us since the eighties, and we always knew that if we entrusted Mountain Retreat to anyone else, it would have to be because of a dedication to our jewel here in the foothills of the Sierra. Their passion for service, as well as the quality and depth of services were the reasons we chose GPRM for this transition.”

Grand Pacific Resort Management offers a full spectrum of Resort Management functions. Its long successful tenure in the industry allows it to tailor services to a resort's unique requirements and, at the same time, work in partnership with the property to keep expenses low and offset expenses with income. The blueprint for this framework has been developed over nearly two decades of successful resort development, operations and back office management as well as financial services.

“The location and the quality of Mountain Retreat make this an ideal enhancement to our growing family of resorts,” said David Brown, Co-President of Grand Pacific Resorts. “Tom Porter has very much the same passion and philosophy as we do, of taking care of his homeowners for the long term."

Among the resorts currently managed by GPRM are Grand Pacific MarBrisa Resort, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club (HGVC) affiliate, Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort, Carlsbad Seapointe Resort, Coronado Beach Resort, Grand Pacific Palisades Resort & Hotel, Indian Palms Vacation Club, Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge, Red Wolf at Squaw Valley, RiverPointe at Napa Valley, San Clemente Cove Resort, Southern California Beach Club, Villa L’Auberge and the Ali'i Kai Resort in Hawaii.

Grand Pacific Resort Management is one of the oldest and largest vacation ownership companies based in California. Servicing over 45,000 owner-families every year, it manages over 1,000 units in California and Hawaii.

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
