Grand Hotel Central, Barcelona Debuts Rooftop Sky Bar

August 13, 2010 - Just in time for summer, the Grand Hotel Central, Barcelona debuts the newly refurbished Sky Bar. This stylish and relaxing hotspot expanded with a new lounge area and comes complete with an infinity pool, panoramic views, bar and light menu from Michelin-starred chef Ramon Freixa of the Avalon Restaurant & Café.

This four-star hotel located in the fashionable Born District is central to a number of the city’s major attractions including the Barcelona Cathedral and The Picasso Museum. The 147 rooms welcome guests to take refuge in a tranquil atmosphere of contemporary minimalist design, providing a stylish urban sanctuary in the heart of Barcelona.

Guests can enjoy fresh Mediterranean dishes combined with the best of Catalan cuisine from the imagination of Chef Ramon Freixa at the Avalon Restaurant & Café. In addition, the hotel’s Wellness Suite offers a team of qualified therapists providing individually designed treatments and massages for total relaxation of the mind and body. Other hotel services include a fitness center, a library (specializing in books on Barcelona), business center and four fully equipped conference rooms.

Owner Pau Guardans opened the hotel in 2006 taking inspiration from the grand hotels of the 1920s and international neighborhoods like Soho in New York. Staying true the building’s original design from this bygone era, the foyer and lobby are accented with wrought iron lamps, stone cornicing, wood floors, and restored antique bronze doors. The elegance and style of the original building’s architecture is presents throughout while the straightforward layout allows guestrooms to be flooded with natural light.

Grand Hotel Central rates begin at 190 Euro per room per night. For more information, call +34 93-295.79.00 or visit www.grandhotelcentral.com

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
