Downtown Portland hotel offers new geocaching package

PORTLAND, OR – August 30, 2010 – Hotel Fifty, a distinctive boutique hotel located in Portland where downtown meets the river, is pleased to introduce the Urban Treasure Hunt package for geocaching enthusiasts and those with a desire for adventure.

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played with GPS devices. Geocachers try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, and then share the caching experience online (http://www.geocaching.com/). The Urban Treasure Hunt package includes a list of some of the 500 waypoints located in the Portland metro area, a logo item to place in a cache, snacks for treasure hunting and overnight accommodation in a cozy guest room at Hotel Fifty.

“Geocaching is something that began in Oregon ten years ago and we are thrilled to add to the hunt,” said Terry Hanley, general manager of Hotel Fifty. “Hotel Fifty offers the best of both worlds: a prime location for finding caches, and relaxation in comfort after a long day of treasure hunting.”

The Urban Treasure Hunt package starts at $159 per night and is available now through Dec. 30, 2010. For more information or to make a reservation, visit http://www.HotelFifty.com or call 877-237-6775.

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
