Kirk Pierpoint Named Director of Engineering of Kauai Marriott Resort and Lagoons

August 30, 2010 - Kirk Pierpoint has been appointed to director of engineering of the newly transformed Kauai Marriott Resort on Kalapaki Beach (www.kauaimarriott.com) and Kauai Lagoons. In this position, he will be responsible for managing the engineering departments’ daily operations, maintaining the resort’s buildings and grounds, and upholding standards in safety, security and asset protection.

With more than fifteen years of hotel renovations and construction experience with Marriott’s Architecture and Construction Division, Pierpoint most recently served as site project manager and oversaw the successful completion of Kauai Marriott Resort’s nine-month, $50 million makeover that touched all hotel areas. Significant enhancements include 356 newly renovated guestrooms and suites, refurbished Kukui’s on Kalapaki Beach restaurant with new Toro-Tei sushi restaurant, refreshed Aupaka Terrace lobby lounge, and newly built children’s pool with a slide and water spout features.

“We look forward to the expertise that Kirk will bring to the resort,” said Brad Snyder, area general manager of Kauai Marriott Resort. “He is a team player with great leadership skills and has fostered a positive relationship with his department, management and fellow associates. Thus, we anticipate a natural transition to this new position.”

Prior to joining Marriott, Pierpoint was a project management consultant for Host Hotels and Resorts and owned a residential construction company.

Pierpoint was born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He and his wife Ellen reside in Kapaa, Kauai.

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
