September 1, 2010 -Reliance Industries has acquired a stake in luxury holiday provider East India Hotels (EIH) in a deal believed to be worth US$217 million.

EIH swung into a quarterly net loss of US$3.3 million for the three months to June 2010, from a profit of US$4million a year earlier. Following the deal Reliance fell by 3.4 per cent - to settle at Rs915.50 - on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
