London Marriott Grosvenor Square AppointsThree New Execs

September 7, 2010 - The London Marriott Grosvenor Square, situated in the heart of Mayfair and one of London’s most stylish hotels, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2010. This year also sees the appointment of three new executive personnel, including John Hazard who has taken on the role of General Manager, Georgina Evagora as Director of Sales & Marketing and Moira Azzopardi who is the new Director of Revenue Strategy.

Prior to joining the London Marriott Grosvenor Square, John held the position of General Manager for the Bristol Royal Marriott where he showed impressive Sales leadership during the economic downturn. John has also worked with other leading hotel brands such as Comfort Inn, Choice Hotels and Premier Lodge. John has taken up his new position as General Manager and his broad knowledge of the hotel industry will be greatly welcomed in this new role.

Georgina’s experience in the hospitality industry has given her a wealth of experience with roles at Emirates Airlines, JW Marriott Dubai, Marriott Marble Arch as well as part of the opening teams for Renaissance Chancery Court and Marriott Executive Apartments, Dubai. Having been awarded the Prestigious Marriott Chairman’s Circle award and the Presidents Circle Award twice, Georgina’s appointment is a positive step forward for the Sales and Marketing team at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square.

Moira Azzorpadi started her career in the US and joined the London Marriott Marble Arch in 2000 before moving to the London Marriott Grosvenor Square in 2007 as an Inventory Manager. Following this, Moira enjoyed a brief period with Hilton hotels before returning in July 2010 to be the new Director of Revenue Strategy.

Commenting on his new appointment, John Hazard said: “I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to join one of London’s leading hotel’s as the new General Manager. I hope that the hotel will benefit from my previous experience and I look forward to working alongside both Georgina and Moira during my time here.”

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
