HRA-WI Signs Memorandum of Understanding with AHLEI

September 7, 2010 - The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with The Hotels & Restaurants Association of Western India (HRA-WI) to provide association members with AHLEI hospitality management courses and professional certification at special pricing.

HRA-WI member hotels and their employees will receive preferred pricing on AHLEI’s 33 distance learning courses, online learning programmes, and 40-plus professional certification designations for the full range of hospitality professionals, from line-level to executive management. This strategic initiative is part of the Indian hotel association’s Diamond Jubilee celebration.

“I urge all HRA-WI members to take advantage of this special arrangement by taking the lead in creating a highly knowledge-based and service-oriented industry,” said Kamlesh Barot, senior vice president, HRA-WI. “No one should be left behind from an opportunity to learn, grow, and make their lives productive, fruitful, and enjoyable. Indian hospitality professionals should be the crème de la crème in the world.”

The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute is the nonprofit educational arm of the American Hotel & Lodging Association. AHLEI’s resources are the gold standard in hospitality training and education and are developed to enhance service performance, professional excellence, and people development through skill- and competency-based educational and certification programmes.

“AHLEI is committed to providing the very best educational and training materials and services available to our industry around the world,” said AHLEI president and COO Robert L. Steele III, CHA. “This memorandum of understanding is an important step toward more effectively meeting the needs of our international clients, particularly those in India.”

Established in 1953 as a nonprofit educational foundation of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Educational Institute’s mission is to support AH&LA by becoming the preferred provider to the lodging industry, hospitality schools, and related hospitality industries both domestically and internationally by developing and providing quality resources to train, educate, and certify hospitality professionals.

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
