Seattle's Cedarbrook Lodge Taps Into New Green Practices

Quintessentially Northwest business and leisure hotel announces additions to sustainable commitment

SEATTLE - January 24, 2012 -– Furthering its commitment to sustainable hotel operations and guest services, Seattle’s quintessentially Northwest Cedarbrook Lodge announces additions to its sustainability initiatives, including electric vehicle (EV) charging stations powered by ECOtality, Inc., and freshly filtered and purified drinking water through partnership with Nordaq FRESH®.

“Since its inception, Cedarbrook has strived to be a leader in responsible, ‘green’ hotel operations,” said Scott Ostrander, general manager of Cedarbrook Lodge. “We’re excited to launch several new elements and additions to our extensive sustainability initiatives both on the operational and guest service levels of the property.”

Cedarbrook is the first hotel in Washington state to partner with ECOtality, Inc., and install Blink® Wall-Mount charging stations. The installation is part of the EV Project, a public-private partnership sponsored by the Department of Energy and managed by ECOtality, Inc. Use of Cedarbrook’s charging stations will be available for guests using the hotel’s recently introduced valet service beginning in March.

Through a partnership with Nordaq FRESH, Cedarbrook and Copperleaf Restaurant guests can now enjoy drinking water that has been freshly filtered and purified onsite. The water, available flat and carbonated, reduces waste from bottles and filtration systems, as well as provides the hotel and restaurant with the ability to carbonate water to their specifications.

“It’s incredible how much something as simple as water can heighten the guest experience,” said Roy Breiman, culinary director of Cedarbrook Lodge. "By filtering, purifying and carbonating our own water, guests will be able to taste the difference not only in the water itself, but also see first-hand the impact it has on the entire food and wine experience at Copperleaf.”

The EV charging stations and water filtration system add to Cedarbrook’s extensive list of sustainably focused hotel operations, guest services and amenities. The hotel and restaurant’s other green initiatives include: onsite composting and soil management system; onsite Chef’s garden and mushroom patch; water reclamation pond and recycling system; kitchen grease recycling through General Biodiesel; biodegradable Auto-Chlor Green Kleen® kitchen and Green Seal certified cleaning products; 100-percent biodegradable and compostable to-go food items; environmentally friendly Green Natüra bath products; Greenplus® housekeeping staff uniforms made from 100-percent post-consumer drinking bottles; recycled stock in-room notepads and pens; recycling bins and low-energy HDTVs in guest rooms; 100-percent biodegradable Green Earth renew key cards; and paperless eBrochures for meetings and weddings.

In addition to the many sustainably focused programs at Cedarbrook, the 104-room business and leisure hotel is in the process of becoming a Green Key Member, a designation awarded by the Green Key Eco-Rating Program, as well as earning its Energy Star rating as precursor to LEED Certification.

Cedarbrook Lodge, ranked the No. 1 hotel in the World on the Expedia® 2011 Insiders’ Select™ List and the No. 1 hotel in the U.S. in the TripAdvisor® 2011 Travelers’ Choice® Awards, is a quintessentially Northwest business and leisure hotel in Seattle. Cedarbrook’s many complimentary guest amenities include plush living rooms featuring comfortable sitting areas, fireplaces, book libraries and 24-hour complimentary snacks; WiFi access; Northwest continental breakfast; and guest shuttles to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, SoundTransit Central Link light rail and Amtrak Tukwila stations.
