Stoke Hotel Raises £21,000 for Douglas Macmillan Hospice

Janaury 26, 2012 - The Best Western Stoke Moat House has raised £21,000 for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.

The Blurton-based Hospice was the Moat House's chosen charity for the year, and members of staff took part in the Hospices' 5K Run/Walk, Midnight to Sunrise Walk as well as Bring a Pound to Work Day.

Each hotel within the Best Western group is challenged to raise the most monies for a local charity, with the Stoke branch raising the most; an accolade they will be honoured for at a dinner on Friday February 3rd.

Clare Furnell–King, general manager of the Hotel said, “2011 was the Hotels 20th year and when the hotel opened in 1991, the Hospice was chosen as our Charity of the Year . When we asked the team which local charity they would like to support ,in our anniversary year, it was unanimously agreed that we should try to raise monies for the Hospice.

"Each department was challenged with raising money and we have managed to raise the brilliant sum of £21,000 for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.”

Zoe Hollingsworth, senior fundraising development manager said, “This is an incredible sum of money that one company has raised. They have organised many fundraising events throughout their special year and I would like to congratulate all the staff at the Moat House who have helped or taken part in any way to make this such a success."

Hotel Human Resources: The Biggest Challenges
The economic challenges of the past four years have led many hotel companies to re-examine the ways in which they do business and how they deploy talent. In many cases, the work did not go away and fewer people were left to carry on the tasks that had previously been shared among many. As we work our way out of the recession and look forward to a healthier economic environment, there is an understanding that despite recovering business levels, we may never see the return of former staffing levels. This "new norm" of operating with leaner teams has led Human Resources professionals and people managers to look at career development and growth opportunities in a new light. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the strategies being used by successful hotel brands, and techniques human resource directors are currently exploring.
