San Juan Marriott in Puerto Rico Unveils its Newly Renovated Lobby and Bar

Completing a 4 Year Project with Earlier Upgrades to Guestrooms and Restaurants

San Juan, PUERTO RICO - January 27, 2012 - The San Juan Marriott recently unveiled its newly renovated lobby lounge, renamed the “Red Coral Lounge.” Renovations, which began on August 1st of this year, were completed December 9, with an official grand opening celebration planned for January 14th, 2012.

Renovations over the past four years have turned the iconic landmark resort into a chic, cosmopolitan destination. The lobby’s legendary bar, traditionally the focal point of the hotel, will remains the central area of the new lobby, surrounded by individualized “zones” that allow for both socialization and intimate conversation. Sleek metal accents, vibrant colors, and modern textures will highlight deep wood finishes and rich earth tones, creating an atmosphere of warmth and opulence where guests can relax to the Latin rhythms of a live band or enjoy a signature cocktail.

The resort lobby incorporates designs from the island’s top local artists and sculptors, allowing the metropolitan space to combine a fresh, modern feel with Puerto Rico’s rich, local culture. Lobby paintings were created by local artist, Carmelo Sobrino, whose brightly colored murals adorn other San Juan destinations such as the Raul Julia theatre in the Puerto Rican Art Museum. The front desk of the lobby features a metal sculpture created by Luis Torruella, whose modern metal works are well known throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. The focal point of the entrance to the lobby is the wooden “Coral Reef,” commissioned by renowned wood sculpturist Neftali Maldonado . Maldonado is considered the best artist of Puerto Rican indigenous wooden art and also holds the Guinness world record for the largest wooden Pilón sculpture.

The lobby renovations complete the San Jan Marriott’s extensive overhaul of its property that included a $35 million investment in upgrading its guest rooms in 2007 and a $2 million makeover of the resort’s restaurants, La Vista Latin Grill and La Isla Grill and Pool Bar, earlier this year.

About the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino Experience a tropical beachfront setting, amazing picture perfect views along the Atlantic Ocean, multiple sundecks packed with palm trees, lounge chairs, hammocks and cabanas, a swim up bar and so much more.
