Mikaela Shiffrin Named "Resident Gold Medalist" at The Westin Riverfront Beaver Creek

. July 23, 2014

July 23, 2014 - The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek Mountain is thrilled to announce that Olympic Gold Medalist Mikaela Shiffrin is now serving as The Westin Riverfront's “Resident Gold Medalist.”

Nineteen-year-old Shiffrin - who was born and raised here in the Vail Valley - won her first Olympic slalom gold medal earlier this year in Sochi and has nine career World Cup slalom wins. She will now train at the Athletic Club at The Westin, hold a series of exclusive events for Athletic Club members and share her racing experiences with guests of the award-winning resort.

“We are very excited to have Mikaela prepare for the upcoming race season in our state-of-the-art facility and to have her share training tips with our Athletic Club members and guests,” said Westin Riverfront General Manager Jeffery Burrell. “The timing of this new relationship is fantastic with the international spotlight shining even brighter on the Vail Valley this February with the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.”

To prepare to have Shiffrin training on-site, the Athletic Club has created a new “Mikaela's Corner” of the gym featuring new equipment, including a new Half-Rack with Olympic Platform and a Fitness Duo Slackline, plus has expanded its XFit Personal Training room, with new sand bags, kettlebells, obstacles and ropes.

Shiffrin was recently nominated for two 2014 ESPY awards: Best Female Athlete and Best Female U.S. Olympian.

The Westin Riverfront - which recently completed more than $4 million in resort upgrades - is inviting guests to try out the Beaver Creek race courses before and after the February races with 2014-2015 ski season rates starting at $319 per night.

Ranked #2 on Conde Nast Traveler's 2013 list of the “Top 50 Ski Hotels” in North America, The Westin Riverfront features 230 finely appointed guest residences ranging from studio suites to three-bedroom condominiums, all with custom kitchens, five-piece bathrooms, gas fireplaces and Westin Heavenly Beds. The resort offers direct access to Beaver Creek via the Riverfront Express Gondola. Amenities include a ski valet, a Westin Kids Club, a year-round outdoor pool and three infinity-edged hot tubs and Maya, a modern Mexican kitchen by Chef Richard Sandoval. Spa Anjali offers an extensive menu of treatments focusing on healing mountain traditions
