Soho Hotel With Iconic Past Debuts This Fall Following Multi-Million Dollar Transformation

. October 14, 2014

October 14, 2014 - Since first opening during the Fall in 2001, 60 Thompson was a pioneer in the luxury boutique hotel sector in SoHo. Over the next 13 years, the creative set flocked to the property, and the term “SIXTY” was quickly established as part of the downtown Manhattan vernacular. Now in 2014, 60 Thompson has rebranded as SIXTY SoHo, and will debut its new look following a multi-million dollar renovation to all guestrooms and public spaces.

Following the transformation, SIXTY SoHo will exude a classic elegance conveyed through a design that embraces the vibrancy of the neighborhood, and also takes into consideration how guests will interact within the space. SIXTY SoHo's design was conceived in a collaborative effort under the creative direction of the Pomeranc brothers and Tara Bernerd, the renowned London-based interior architecture and design practice of Tara Bernerd & Partners. The vision behind SIXTY SoHo is to create an approachable hotel in downtown Manhattan that captures the experience of the most seductive private homes. It combines bohemian chic and modern sophistication while bridging the juxtaposition of contemporary and vintage styles.

The SIXTY SoHo journey begins at the hotel's discreet entrance with the look of a typical downtown New York pied-a-terre. Custom iron fencing frames the landscaped entryway with cafe-style seating, creating a hidden oasis in the heart of SoHo. In the lobby areas, Bernerd's signature use of handsome color palettes, layered textures, warm lighting and contrasting materials achieves a relaxed members' club feel. Rich velvets and grey wood paneling act as a backdrop to art pieces created and curated by popular British artist, Harland Miller. The space is punctuated by a thoughtful selection of mid-century and contemporary furniture.

"The transformation of SIXTY SoHo will create a stylish, residential environment for our guests seeking an exclusive urban retreat,” states owner Jason Pomeranc. “People have forgotten there is a narrative to be told in the hotel sector; we strive to be cultural story-tellers through art, design, experiences and service that will welcome, excite and inspire our guests long after they have checked out."

All 97 newly-designed guestrooms are now appointed with planked timber floors combined with caramel leather furnishings and blue mohair accents. Dark timber slatted blinds, a bespoke bar cabinet and a desk in petrol blue lacquer with tan leather inserts, contribute to the chic bedroom interiors. In his first-ever hotel partnership, popular London-based artist, Harland Miller, has been commissioned by SIXTY SoHo to create original pieces for the guestrooms. SIXTY SoHo's 97 guestrooms, include 10 Suites with French-balconies overlooking SoHo's eclectic neighborhood, and provide an intimate residential experience. The three SIXTY Suites feature separate, spacious, living rooms, and the duplex SIXTY Loft showcases an expansive private roof deck with unobstructed Manhattan skyline views. Guests will recognize the luxurious in-room amenities featuring terrycloth robes, towels and bed linens by SFERRA and bathroom amenities by REN.

SIXTY SoHo will also debut new food and beverage outlets as part of a collaboration with New York City restaurateur John McDonald (Lure Fishbar, B&B Winepub, El Toro Blanco, Bowery Meat Company). McDonald and team will open Sessanta, a casual restaurant serving coastal Italian fare, in early 2015. A longtime champion of the SoHo neighborhood, McDonald is working with Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (SoHo Beach House, 34) on the restaurant's design.

The new partnership between the Pomeranc's and McDonald will also include the launch of a new hotel lobby bar, opening in November 2014, and new menus for in-room dining and Above SIXTY, the hotel's exclusive guest-only rooftop terrace featuring panoramic views of New York City's stunning skyline.
