. March 04, 2015

NEW YORK - March 4, 2015 - Michael Namer, CEO of Alfa Development, a Manhattan real estate development company, today announced the commencement of a $12 million renovation of their 90-room Hotel Grand Union. The hotel will remain closed throughout the renovation and is expected to reopen in early fall 2015. The hotel is operated by Marshall Hotels & Resorts, a leading hotel management and services company that operates properties nationwide.

"Manhattan is arguably the world's hottest hotel market, and we look forward to unlocking the true potential of this asset," Namer said. "While the renovation will upgrade and modernize numerous aspects of the hotel, we will pay close attention to preserving the building's historic elements and incorporating the culture and artistic spirit of New York City, providing business and leisure travelers with a truly authentic New York experience from arrival through departure."

The improvements will include public spaces, guest rooms and back-of-house systems. All guest rooms will receive new windows, updated bathrooms, as well as new furniture, flooring, bedding and decor.

"Today's travelers crave hotels with a sense of place, and the Hotel Grand Union, located in the coveted Nomad District and just steps from one of Manhattan's true icons, the Empire State Building, is exactly that kind of hotel," said Mike Marshall, president of Marshall Hotels & Resorts. "This renovation, coupled with an exceptional location, surrounded by historic landmarks, great restaurants and entertainment venues, will make the Hotel Grand Union an ideal destination for visitors who desire a true slice of Manhattan."

Located in the Nomad District of Midtown Manhattan at 34 East 32nd St., between Park and Madison Avenues, the 10-story hotel was built in 1905 and landmarked in 2013. It was originally designed by architect Frederick C. Bowne in the Beaux-Arts style possessed by some of New York City's most beautiful and beloved building, and has operated at a hotel for over 110 years. The property is ideally located between Bryant Park, Times Square, Madison Square Garden, Madison Square Park, and Union Square.
