MAAMIGILI, Maldives - Transforming traditional wisdom and local lore into a contemporary Maldivian spa experience, the newly opened Loama Resort Maldives at Maamigili is pleased to launch Loama Spa.Loama Spa is the brainchild of internationally-renowned spa consultant Barry Warrington of IS Wellness and a consultant to many of the top names in luxury spa experiences.

"Loama Spa is to the best of my knowledge the first modern Maldivian spa concept that has a claim to authenticity and a cultural focus," Mr Warrington said.

"We began the project with exhaustive research on the history of this seafaring nation, the various influences, trade routes, traditional herbal cures and various treatments dating back to antiquity.

"From that research, we were able to create a unique product range under the Loama Spa brand. And the experiences are delivered by highly-trained Maldivians.

Loama Spa is located amidst the lush vegetation of Maamigili - a haven within a haven extending out to sea via the spa jetty. The spa spans 496sqm and faces southwest to capture stunning sunsets.

The Spa offers a variety of therapeutic, pampering, holistic and signature treatments to suit individual needs and preferences. The Loama private label range of products is made from natural plant essences and extracts, and its signature scents are a pleasure to all senses. The therapeutic touch from our therapist and restores balance to the body and soul.

"The great thing about the Maldives is that the island nation is very unpolluted and pure. There are no toxins. So we have made the most of that fact with our own range of creams. The purity of the ingredients in most cases was quite extraordinary. We have also used so-called superfoods heavily, and wellness that works, immune system boosting, eating to live, these are all important ideas woven in to the final product."

Deborah Simms, founder of The Source, the specialists who created the signature Loama Spa range, said the most authentic Maldivian treatments were those inspired by pearls.

"We took inspiration from the pearl divers, the trading routes, and the fact that pearl has long been known in these parts as a beauty treatment."

Ms Simms said the ultimate treatment for those wanting to experience the gold standard in pampering and indulgence was the Loama Spa 'Reethi Ran' experience.

The name is simple, but the treatment is lavish and lasts for over 2.5 hours. It begins with a body scrub infused with colloidal gold and caviar followed by a whole-body 24K gold wrap, leading to a gold, silk and caviar facial and a light caviar and gold flecked moisturizer applied to the body. The result: a lasting all-over golden youthful glow.

Loama Resort Maldives General Manager Andres Rubio said he was delighted to declare Loama Spa open and excited to share with guests its unique nature and authentic cultural touches.

Mr Rubio, on his third stint in the Maldives, said: "We have put a lot of effort into training the best staff and assembling a team that really knows the background and substance of what they are offering, and that's an important distinction."

"There are also some touches of 'wow', found in features like glass-bottom treatment rooms and an above-water yoga platform."

The real wow, however awaits within the substance of the therapies and treatments. Signature treatments, billed as Cultural Highlights, include our signature Loama Massage, which offers the guest a choice of detoxifying, energising or calming scents and essential oils as they enter their private over-water glass-bottom private spa pavilion and an hour to 90 minutes of deliciously unique massage begins, depending on the guest's choice.

A floral footbath is the first step towards relaxation and reinvigoration. Then the massage proper begins, with the therapist combining a bespoke blend of Maldivian, Swedish and Thai massage and accupressure techniques to bring on bliss, while a unique Loama blend of essential oils and fragrances combining orange, geranium, bergamot, rosemary, juniper, ylang ylang and lemongrass cleanse and detoxify cramped and aching muscles. www.loamahotelsandresorts.com
