Mama Shelter is Coming Home to Hollywood

. April 01, 2015

Los Angeles. California - April 1, 2015 - It's a little prayer, a poem, a psalm, the gold at the end of the Manifest Destiny rainbow, the punchline of a country ballad, the destination of all prison songs. It is a dream, sort of. It is the end of Western civilization and the city of the future, defined by cars and films, aerospace and computers (the Internet went online for the first time at UCLA).

There is still space here. Even better, we can still make space here. So we're making MAMA Shelter.

MAMA Shelter is a hotel of course, everyone needs a bed to rest their weary heads. MAMA is what we wished a hotel could be, more than just a mini-fridge and California king. We want to make a sanctuary but an open one, an oases unseparated from the vibrant energy of a thrumming city. We want all the diverse characters that make Los Angeles extraordinary to not just crash here but to live, work, laugh, debate, celebrate, and at the end of the night, to come home to MAMA.

MAMA creates a space that brings together all those rhinestone cowboys and Sunset Strip rockers, paint-splattered artists and well-cut designers, balling entrepreneurs and dancehall deejays (along with all those that don't fit under any easy rubric) who come to Los Angeles to figure things out, mediate in the sunlight, and night-range for the sheer fun freedom of the act. All the while looking for space to grow, to change, to manifest all that destiny.

MAMA wants to bring you to that place.

Created seven years ago by the Trigano Family, co-founders of Club Med, today MAMA is Serge and his two sons, Benjamin and Jeremie. MAMA began her roots in Paris, then Marseilles, from there to Lyon, Istanbul, Bordeaux, and now Los Angeles. We only go to places we would like to live. Benjamin move to California to found M+B gallery, and thriving here he knew that far-flung travellers and LA dreamers like him needed MAMA.

And MAMA will take care of you. With the best of all things, here is the snugness of home with the freedom of being cut from the quotidian. A comfort that is adoringly sumptuous but totally relaxed. It's about Mama loving you.

Designed by Thierry Gaugain, MAMA Shelter perches six-stories over the beautiful freaks and sputtering neon of Hollywood Blvd, The rooms are havens with comfortable king beds and 27 inch iMacs (featuring television, Criterion Collection movies, video/photo booth, and of course the Internet). MAMA's rooftop allows you to take in the sights of all of Los Angeles with a near 360 degree view from the Hollywood sign to Downtown to South Bay to the Westside. She's located blocks away from the peaked roof and cement celeb handprints at the Chinese Theatre along the Walk of Fame, as well as countless boutiques and bars, tattoo parlors and record shops, burrito stands and vegan restaurants. Watching the surge of traffic beneath the broad fans of palm trees, there is no place else like LA.

The experiment that began in Paris continues in Los Angeles. MAMA saw another sister city of lights, a metropolis always growing, shifting, unfettered by history whilst making it.

How could she not want to be here?
