Ensemble Hotel Partners Breaks Ground on Hyatt Place Hotel in Emeryville, California

. April 20, 2015

EMERYVILLE, CA. - April 20, 2015. Ensemble Hotel Partners today announced that the company has broken ground on a new Hyatt Place hotel in Emeryville, the first hotel to be built in the community in more than a decade. Located at the northern end of Bay Street Emeryville, a dynamic retail center, the new hotel features a contemporary design that will complement its unique surroundings. The 175-room, upscale, select service hotel will benefit from its new location within the amenity-filled retail mall, while adding more modern hotel rooms to serve Emeryville's thriving community as well as its growing number of business and leisure travelers.

"Hyatt Place Emeryville/San Francisco Bay Area exemplifies our keen focus on embedded development by pursuing opportunities within booming, well-located retail centers, and working with the owners and other stakeholders to design a hotel that adds tremendous value to the surrounding community," said Brian Ehrlich, chief investment officer at Ensemble Hotel Partners. "Our goal is to use our signature expertise and creativity to bring the right product to the right location, and we are delighted that it will both serve and support local businesses."

Ensemble selected DavisReed Construction to provide design/build construction services for the project, and innovative hotel management company, RIM Hospitality, to manage the new hotel. The hotel is expected to open for business in the Q3 2016.

The contemporary design of the new Hyatt Place features extensive use of glass and brick to reflect Emeryville's industrial architectural heritage. The hotel will be integrated into the Bay Street Emeryville retail center through a landscaped outdoor patio that will extend the mall into the hotel. The hotel's ground floor will be dedicated to public use, including a spacious lobby and dining area, with five levels of guestrooms above. Hyatt Place Emeryville/San Francisco Bay Area will offer:

  • 175 guestrooms, all of which will feature a swiveling 42-inch HDTV, the plush Hyatt Grand Bed®, Cozy Corner sectional sofa, mini-fridge and a separate work space
  • Free Wi-Fi and remote printing everywhere, plus hard-wired access available in each and every guestroom for seamless and secure access
  • Flexible, high-tech meeting/function space with audio visual equipment
  • Complimentary a.m. Kitchen Skillet™ breakfast for guests, featuring freshly prepared breakfast sandwiches, a variety of fresh fruits, hot and cold cereal, yogurt, breads, premium coffee and an assortment of juices
  • A 24-hour gym
  • 24/7 Gallery Menu and a Coffee to Cocktails Bar serving Starbucks® specialty coffees and teas, premium beer, wine, and cocktails

Given Emeryville's unique location and proximity to Oakland, Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay Area, Hyatt Place Emeryville/San Francisco Bay Area will be an attractive and affordable lodging option for Bay Area business and leisure travelers. The city is also home to numerous corporate headquarters, including Peet's Coffee, Clif Bar, Pixar Animation Studios, Novartis, Bayer Healthcare, Leapfrog, and Jamba Juice.

In addition to 40 onsite parking spaces, the hotel will utilize Bay Street Emeryville's existing parking facilities, located only a short walk away and typically underused at night. "This arrangement is highly efficient in that it maximizes the use of an existing facility," Ehrlich said.

One of the most popular shopping destinations in the area, Bay Street Emeryville is comprised of 65 stores, 10 restaurants, a movie theater, and 400 residential units, all within three city blocks and connected by a main street. The mall uses architecture, lighting, landscape, and environmental graphics to create an eclectic and energetic atmosphere with appealing streetscapes, plazas and green space.

Other Northern California projects currently under development by Ensemble Hotel Partners include a new Marriott Autograph Collection luxury hotel for the Menlo Gateway site in Menlo Park, and the renovation of the Bernardus Lodge and Spa in the Carmel Valley, managed by Woodside Hotels of Menlo Park.
