Royal Hotel Investment Breaks Ground for Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Covington, Georgia

. June 29, 2015

COVINGTON, GA. June 29, 2015 - Royal Hotel Investment breaks ground today for a new 110-room, six-floor Holiday Inn Express® & Suites in Covington, Georgia, about 35 miles east of Atlanta. The hotel, which represents an investment of almost $13 million, is expected to open in November of 2016.

Amenities will include a business center; fitness center; outdoor swimming pool; 400 square-foot board room; 1,000 square feet of flexible meeting space; guest laundry; and an expansive outdoor patio with two fire pits.

The property will be one of the first Holiday Inn Express hotels in the country to be built featuring the brand's recently-introduced “Formula Blue” design direction, which was developed to meet the evolving needs of millennium-age guests who are looking for a simple, smart, and efficient travel experience.

The updated design includes features such as an open lobby and “great room” area for social or business gatherings; re-designed case goods; and a headboard that minimizes noise transfer between rooms.

“Four important trends shape today's hotel marketplace -- people are traveling, demand exceeds supply, banks are lending again, and financial fundamentals such as occupancy and rates are forecast to stay strong for several years,” explains Navin Shah, Chairman of Royal Hotel Investment. “These factors come together to make it an excellent time for us to add to our portfolio of upscale limited-service properties.”

Atlanta-based Royal Hotel Investment, which was formed in 2002, currently owns and operates two Hampton Inn hotels in metropolitan Atlanta -- a 105-room property in Covington and a 99-room property in Conyers -- plus a 20,000 sq. ft. shopping center in Covington. The company also plans to add another two hotels within the next year.

“We're part of thriving suburban communities where we offer properties that are important local resources for both travelers and residents,” adds Shah. “We're the spot where business gets done and where memories are created by families, companies, and civic groups.”

Covington is often referred to as “the Hollywood of the South” based on its popularity as the filming location for many well-known movies and television shows, notably “The Walking Dead,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “Selma,” and “The Dukes of Hazzard.”

The new hotel, located at the intersection of Lochridge Road and Paras Drive, becomes part of the diverse family of hotel brands operated by InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) in nearly 100 countries around the world. The property will participate in IHG Green Engage® and offer unique programs to ensure sustainability.

“Our exceptional team of architects, designers, vendors, construction specialists, and hospitality professionals will work in close partnership to create a distinctive property that implements brand standards while maintaining a unique Southern touch,” says Shah, who also serves as Vice-Chairman of Embassy National Bank in Atlanta.

The bank, which was established in 2007, has grown to about $74 million in assets and is among the leading lenders to small businesses in the southeastern United States.

There are almost 2,400 Holiday Inn Express locations worldwide.
