Joie de Vivre Hotels to Debut The Troubadour this Fall Following the Conversion of Historic New Orleans Building

. September 15, 2016

NEW ORLEANS, LA. September 15, 2016 - Joie de Vivre Hotels announces the fall 2016 opening of its first New Orleans hotel, The Troubadour. Debuting in a 17-story landmark building in the Central Business District, the 184-room boutique hotel celebrates the spirit of The Big Easy with its historic address, musical energy, locally-celebrated cuisine, fun-loving design, and one-of-a-kind amenities. The Troubadour is being brought to life as a result of a visionary partnership between Slumber Corners, the hotel's owners; Commune Hotels & Resorts; Chef Phillip Lopez; Campo Architects; and interior design firm Paletteur.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to add to the vibrancy of New Orleans by introducing The Troubadour,” says Niki Leondakis, CEO of Commune Hotels & Resorts. “This city brings alive our brand and its 'Joy of Life' ethos. The Troubadour will offer guests an exciting range of modern and locally-rooted experiences in an eclectic, Southern-inspired setting that we hope will become a part of New Orleans' storied history.”

Located in the heart of an emerging neighborhood, just steps away from the iconic French Quarter, BioDistrict, historic Garden District and Warehouse District, The Troubadour embodies the qualities of a city that is constantly reinventing itself. Drawing inspiration from the history and eclectic culture of New Orleans, The Troubadour is an expression of the city's free-spirited evolution and will provide guests with a true sense of discovery.

“We are really excited for the transformation and growth of the Central Business District,” says Wayne Hendricks, General Manager of The Troubadour. “Our hotel is at the forefront of this developing neighborhood and will provide a social hub for young, sophisticated guests with our rooftop bar, Monkey Board. Plus, being located a few blocks away from New Orleans' renowned theatres plays to The Troubadour's artistic spirit.”

Crescent City Design Originally developed as an office building, The Troubadour's home at 1111 Gravier Street was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places. Campo Architects and Paletteur collaborated on the hotel's design, keeping the building's integrity intact while creating a contemporary, fun atmosphere. Paletteur utilized a range of materials throughout the building, focusing on the combination of a warm palette with patinated finishes and geometric patterns.

To celebrate New Orleans' eclectic personality and layered history, each space within the hotel will have its own distinct identity. Paying homage to the landmarked building, the first floor will be centered around an original staircase, which will lead to the second-floor lounge, as well as meeting rooms “Highball” and “Snifter”— another nod to the spirited culture of New Orleans.

Each of the 184 guestrooms and suites will feature a modern aesthetic with subtle touches of New Orleans mysticism, music, and local culture; full-length windows; retro-style refrigerators, mini bars with locally-sourced items, and two-person bartops for guests to enjoy in-room cocktails; as well as spacious bathrooms with dramatic tiles, playful sconces, and Jonathan Adler custom-scented bath amenities—part of a new Joie de Vivre Hotels' brand partnership.

Rooted in NOLA With New Orleanian Chef Phillip Lopez—Executive Chef, Co-Owner of Root, Square Root, The Test Kitchen, and Part & Parcel Delicatessen—at the helm, The Troubadour will have one of the city's most revered culinary talents behind its unique concepts—Petit Lion, Lobby Lounge, and Monkey Board. Chef Lopez has also tapped renowned local bartender T. Cole Newton to design The Troubadour's creative cocktail program.

Petit Lion, located on the street level, will be The Troubadour's signature, casual neighborhood bistro where guests and locals alike will be able to enjoy the cozy and inviting atmosphere for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Chef's unique style will be featured in a menu full of well-rounded fan favorites, including a lobster burger, stuffed deviled eggs, fried chicken, Croque Monsieur, and more. The beverage menu will showcase a selection of local beers, approachable wines by the glass and bottle, and unique takes on classic cocktails, all of which guests will be able to enjoy around the horseshoe-shaped bar in the center of the restaurant.

Lobby Lounge, located on the second floor, will be an ode to the hotel's musical influences, highlighting bites from Petit Lion and a unique cocktail program, featuring punch bowls, named after some of the greatest tunes from the late 1960s. The multifunctional second floor features floor-to-ceiling windows and can also be transformed into a private event space.

Monkey Board, The Troubadour's versatile rooftop, will feature installations created by Stikki Peaches, a well-known street artist, and serve as a lively venue for guests and locals to spend their weekends, join friends for after-work happy hours, enjoy live entertainment, and take in the unparalleled city views. Guests will enjoy food truck inspired dishes, including hot pretzels, fish tacos, and fried chicken sandwiches; childhood favorite desserts such as sharable birthday cakes; large-format cocktail pitchers; and more. Monkey Board will also be available for private events.
