Woodstock Inn & Resort Names New Ski Area Manager at Suicide Six

. October 10, 2016

WOODSTOCK, VT. October 10, 2016 - Gary S. Thulander, president and general manager of the Woodstock Inn & Resort, announced the appointment of Timothy Reiter as Ski Area Manager at Suicide Six. Overseeing and enhancing the alpine experience at Suicide Six, Tim will also work to establish the mountain as a year-round destination for sporting and cultural events, as well as develop and implement a variety of new activities for Woodstock Inn & Resort guests and the community at large.

“The appointment of a strong leader and the installation of a new quad chairlift signals Woodstock Resort's commitment to protect the historical significance of Suicide Six and to evolve the overall ski experience for both the community and our guests,” said Thulander. “Tim brings nearly 20 years of industry experience to Suicide Six, and we are delighted to have him join the resort team in such a pivotal role.”

Previously, Reiter was the Mountain Operations Manager at Killington and Pico Ski Resort Partners for seven years. Most recently, he worked as a Western US Sales Manager for TechnoAlpin Snow Experts in Colorado, makers of snow guns and snow-making solutions, where he managed more than 120 resort relationships and designed snow-making systems. Additional experience includes directing the Jaguar Land Rover Experience at Quail, an off-roading driving school. An avid snowboarder and skier, Tim and his family reside in Bethel, VT.

At Suicide Six, construction has begun on a new quad chairlift to replace Chair #1 that will double the capacity and provide a more comfortable and rapid ascent to the summit. Leitner-Poma of America, Inc., Grand Junction, CO, has been selected to install the equipment at an estimated cost of $1.5 million. Installation is on track for completion in time for a mid-December opening. Funding for the new chairlift is being provided through a grant from the Laurance S. Rockefeller Fund.

Recognized as one of the oldest ski areas in the country, Suicide Six has a rich history. America's first rope tow, introduced on nearby Gilbert's Hill in 1934, inspired the opening of Suicide Six in 1936. In 1961 Laurance S. Rockefeller purchased Suicide Six from its founder, Wallace “Bunny” Bertram, as part of his vision for the community of Woodstock. Today, Suicide Six is one of Vermont's leading family-friendly ski resorts featuring more than 100 acres of skiing on 24 trails and slopes with terrain suitable for all abilities.
