Ten Years in the Making, Hostmark Hospitality Group Set for Early 2017 Opening of Hotel Key West at Stock Island Marina

. November 17, 2016

KEY WEST, FL. November 17, 2016 - Slated for an opening in the first quarter of 2017, Hotel Key West is nearing the completion of its construction at Stock Island Marina Village. With design components inspired by the industrial heritage of the working boatyards and saltwater fishing businesses that have called this island home for generations, the 100-room Hotel Key West balances modern design and amenities with the nostalgia and craft of a by-gone era.

The $38 million hotel development will be located within the Stock Island Marina Village complex, and include shops, restaurants, and the largest deep water marina in the Florida Keys, capable of accommodating vessels measuring up to 300-feet in length.

The hotel, which will be independently owned and operated, is a collaboration between Continental Properties Acquisition Corporation (CPAC), Lubert-Adler Real Estate Funds and the team behind Stock Island Marina Village. Miami-based CREC will manage construction and Illinois-based Hostmark Hospitality Group will oversee operations.

“Home to the largest fishing fleet in the Florida Keys, direct access to the ocean, and an emerging retail and restaurant district, Stock Island is one of Key West's most exciting neighborhoods,” explains CPAC principal Warren Weiser. “The debut of Hotel Key West, along with the continued development of Stock Island Marina Village, will be a magnet for visitors coming to Key West,” concludes Weiser.

Property amenities will include a lush outdoor pool area with an adjacent bar and grill overlooking the marina, eco tours via paddleboard, kayak or boat, fishing and diving day trips and an array of curated excursions into the local culture and color of Key West. The hotel will include a full-service restaurant with patio seating and a “boat to table” menu featuring local daily-caught seafood and farm-fresh regional ingredients. The property's architecture will pay homage to the industrial history of the first of Key West's seven islands and its long tradition of working boatyards, fishing fleets and marinas.

“When our hotel guests venture into the Florida Keys sunshine, they'll choose between hitting the open ocean and exploring the Safe Harbor area, which is home to galleries, local restaurants and bars, a community garden and more amenities still to come,” says Matt Strunk, developer of Stock Island Marina Village.

Development of Hotel Key West comes as the destination strengthens its position as one of the country's best-performing hotel markets. A 2015 report by Smith Travel Research found that average annual hotel occupancy in Key West is in excess of 80 percent, with average daily rates of approximately $280 per night.

At Hotel Key West every room will offer a water view and open onto a breezy, over-sized private terrace. Luxurious suites boast soaking tubs and balconies perfect for entertaining. The industrial scale yet cozy atmosphere of the high-ceilinged and pillared lobby gives way to a tranquil, lushly landscaped pool deck. A selection of hammocks, lounge chairs and private cabanas overlook the marina.

Uniquely situated between the mangroves lining Shrimp Road and the new state-of-the-art 220-slip Stock Island marina, Hotel Key West affords equally easy access to the Atlantic, as it does to all that the timeless Key West experience has to offer.

“Stock Island is an ideal setting for this hotel, located minutes from the heart of Key West,” says Bradley Weiser, principal with Hostmark Hospitality Group. “When completed, the hotel will offer the amenities of a new, modern hotel in a resort destination, that will be unlike anything currently offered in the market offering guests some of the world's best fishing, boating and the finest in hospitality.”
