FBEYE International Brings a Touch of Contemporary Thai Designs to Malaysia's First Amari Hotel

. June 05, 2017

SINGAPORE. June 5, 2017 - FBEYE International is delighted to present the completion of its latest project - Amari Johor Bahru; an elegant property situated in the heart of the city's thriving business, shopping and entertainment district.

Amari's stylish decor and Asian-inspired touches created by FBEYE International can be seen throughout the hotel; from its calming main lobby and sophisticated spa to the hotel's vibrant all-day restaurant and colourful social spaces.

Featuring 242 guestrooms and suites, the Amari Johor Bahru offers a unique combination of style and substance through the use of elegant furnishings and a mix of contemporary and traditional designs. To pay homage to the city and its surroundings, a carpet made with custom art from local typography, graphically developed from the terrain in abstract form gives the surface a stark contrast against the lighter, natural tone finishes of the walls. Adorning the bedhead wall is a contemporary panelling detail with a custom canvas print interpreting the fresh winds blowing into the mountain landscapes found around the area.

To further emphasise the brand's Thai tradition, ornaments and small carvings details can be found on the timber panel nightstand and the shower glass wall. Rich Thai tones can also be found in the selection of furniture and fabrics blending effortlessly into the overall design scheme; giving the rooms and suites a touch of modern luxury.

Asian Heritage Meets Functionality

Drawing inspiration from the brand's Thai heritage, the lobby offers cool tranquillity by combining elegant marble flooring and walls accentuated by soft lighting. The simplistic decor is heightened by handmade Thai paper artwork carefully placed among circular forms and enhanced by pendant lights; creating a uniquely modern vibe.

FBEYE International added an element of comfort and functionality to the space with numerous custom seats upholstered with vibrant bursts of colour complete with stylish reception desks that have been designed to be the focal point with an oversized art piece depicting the famous Thai elephant and flora. Looking at the ceiling, guests can also marvel at the Malaysian-inspired ceilings with slatted timbers and grille works, painted pure white for a contemporary, fresh touch.

More than a simple gateway into the hotel, the reception area at Amari Johor Bahru was designed as an access point to the hotel's amenities, allowing the cafe, lounge and meeting places to play a bigger part in the hotel's social spaces and liven-up the reception area at all times of the day.

Combining The Beauty of Nature With Pops of Colour

Inspired by Asia's culinary diversity, the all-day dining restaurant AMAYA offers guests a unique setting to enjoy a medley of cuisines from across Asia. Using natural materials such as scarred wooden beams, window shutters and traditional screens make for a distinctively unique look as guests jump from one food station to the next. Even the lighting was carefully curated to complement the country and cuisine it offers; making for a seamless transition between culture and local experiences.

An abundance of colours and textures can be admired throughout the restaurant reflecting the fusion of cuisines as well as the heart of the Amari brand. From colourful wall decorations to carved ceiling panels and lit boxes, no expense was spared to enchant every visit. Even the flooring exudes a certain quality that can only be found in markets or street stalls - a mix of encaustic tile, timber and ceramic tiles that will become more beautiful as time goes by.

Versatile Entertainment Spaces

The spacious pre-function room and ballroom offers guests over 7,000sqft of lavish entertainment space that can comfortably accommodate guests for a sit-down meal, cocktail reception or conference format.

A wall of geometric timber shapes and forms beautify the pre-function space as it leads guests' inside the ballroom. There, guests will be transported to a spacious room embellished by opulent chandeliers, textured fabric wall panels and custom carpet. Local art is used to balance the contemporary setting which is enhanced by neutral color palette and light accent tones.

When Business and Pleasure Collide

FBEYE International put a creative twist on the traditional hotel business centre by transforming the space into a creative environment that is both colourful and stylish whilst offering an area where guests can relax or be social. The perfect balance was realised by developing an open-concept space containing stylish furniture with bright upholstery accented by colourful pillows. Communal work tables reside along bookcases and pool tables, to offer guests that work-life balance. Local and international art can be found adorning the walls, keeping true to the hotel's Thai heritage.

Sweet Surrender

The hotel's Breeze Spa was designed with harmony and functionality in mind. To enhance the overall guest experience, a sophisticated, colourful place to relax and rejuvenate was created by bringing a touch of local culture and natural harmony. A signature floral mosaic stands out across the walls whilst a light oak timber filters down from the wall to the floor, bringing a touch of the orient to the spaces. Sculptural pieces inspired by local artists' catch-the-eye whilst playful upholstery colours create depth.

Warren Foster-Brown, Managing Director of FBEYE International states, “As a specialist in designing award-winning hotels and resorts for brands around the world, we pride ourselves on adapting and incorporating unique elements from the properties' local culture, heritage and natural landscape.
