PlumpJack Group's Ingleside Inn & Melvyn's Restaurant Undergoes Historic Restoration and Design Transformation

Storied Property to Return to its Authentic Roots and Spanish Colonial Revival Style Design

SAN FRANCISCO, CA. June 22, 2017 - The legendary Ingleside Inn & Melvyn's Restaurant - a famed hideaway for some of Old Hollywood's brightest stars, from John Wayne, Greta Garbo and Elizabeth Taylor to Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and Steve McQueen - embarks on a phased, comprehensive revitalization to usher the celebrated Palm Springs establishment into the present day while gracefully preserving its historic integrity and inherent charm. The first Southern California property in San Francisco-based PlumpJack Group's award-winning portfolio is projected to debut its elevated look late October 2017.

The Inn's 30 rooms, suites and villas are going through a significant transformation to reposition the property as an upscale retreat, balancing authenticity with luxury and modern amenities, while the renowned Melvyn's Restaurant is subtly polished to maintain its essence and pay homage to longtime owner and one of the Palm Springs Valley's most iconic personalities, the late Melvyn Haber.

“Ingleside Inn & Melvyn's Restaurant has long been an evocative symbol of Hollywood's Golden Era and an integral part of the Palm Springs community, thanks in large part to former owner Melvyn Haber who truly put his heart and soul into the property,” said Hilary Newsom, president and partner, PlumpJack Group. “We are dedicated to carrying on Mel's legacy, distinguishing the Inn as much by its design as its illustrious history, and bringing back that feeling of an authentic desert retreat.”

Leading the redesign of the Palm Springs Historic Landmark are Kimberley Nunn and Dan Worden, founders of the Napa, Calif.-based interior design firm, Shopworks. The duo plans to honor the Inn's roots and Spanish Colonial Revival style by combining the old with the new, restoring many of the property's original finishes layered with contemporary takes of historic touchpoints.

“We conducted meticulous, archival research as part of our design effort to re-establish a sense of sanctuary at Ingleside Inn,” said Nunn. “This is one of Palm Springs' first resort-style escapes, and we wanted to celebrate all that's glamorous of Hollywood's Golden Age and the famous and infamous stories of the Inn and Melvyn's past.”

A focal point of the expansive grounds is the pool - a palm-dotted, lushly landscaped oasis set against a majestic backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains - lined with Old Hollywood, Riviera-inspired pool loungers that pay tribute to the Inn's heritage. New seating in the courtyard and public areas create inviting social spaces for guests to relax and casually congregate.

Within the re-imagined Inn, smooth adobe walls will be newly washed in white, contrasted with dark-wood trim, and accented with a soft color palette of gold, shell pink, muted teal and apricot. Saltillo tile, reminiscent of flooring found in a 1920s Spanish-style home, cover the ground beneath while restored photographs from notable moments in the property's history adorn the walls throughout. Remaining in the lobby and Melvyn's Restaurant are the crystal chandeliers for a touch of historic grandeur.

Melvyn's Restaurant is receiving a light treatment to its aesthetic and menu with respect to what Haber has created. Design plans include restoring the restaurant's bar and bathroom tile to their originals, reupholstering furniture, and the addition of striped awnings and an updated patio for a seamless integration into the property. Continuing in the bar is the not-to-be-missed live entertainment with Ron Greenip and Mikael Healey. Ensuring the warm hospitality and exceptional guest service for which Melvyn's Restaurant is known are longtime staff members Maître D' Brian Ellis, Captain Bobby Bouldoc and Bartender Mark Mayrick.

Highlights of the guest rooms include headboards custom-made in Mexico, bespoke furnishings, period-appropriate lighting, Spanish-style rugs and mint-tiled bathrooms, and warm-weather-casual rattan furniture in rooms with private outdoor spaces. Guest room fireplaces will be retrofitted with decorative golden Spanish-inspired tile.

Ingleside Inn & Melvyn's Restaurant is the latest joint venture asset between PlumpJack Group and Meriwether Companies, a Colorado-based real estate and investment firm. PlumpJack Group assumed management of the property in January 2017.
