The Resort at Pedregal Awarded Energy Management Systems Certification for Energy Efficiency Management

The Award-Winning Resort Receives First ISO 50001 Certification in Latin America for a Luxury Resort by AENOR

. June 26, 2017

CABO SAN LUCAS, MX. June 26, 2017 - The Resort at Pedregal, a AAA Five-Diamond, Forbes Five-
Star Resort in Cabo San Lucas, received the prestigious Certification of Energy Management Systems
award, UNE-EN ISO 50001: 2011, from AENOR this month, making it one of only two resorts to hold the
certification and the first luxury resort in Latin America by AENOR. ISO 50001 supports organizations and

resorts in using energy more efficiently through energy management programs, helping to conserve resources and improve environmental management.

ISO 50001 standards outlines the requirements that an Energy Management System must have to make continuous and systematic improvements in energy performance. In receiving this award, The Resort at Pedregal has met the requirements of developing a policy for efficient energy use, used data to better understand and make decisions about energy use, measured the results, and is continually improving energy management on-property.

“Sustaining our natural resources is a hallmark of our property and signals a new era for Baja. This certification is a universal acknowledgement of our commitment,” said General Manager Fernando Flores. “It proves that through daily efforts, we can set a global standard for energy conservation and make an impact.”

Energy efforts for 2017 include using 27.09 percent less electricity per guest when compared to the previous year, 17.35 percent less gas per guest consumed than in 2016, and the establishment of an energy policy to reduce energy consumption by 3 percent, a goal which the resort is currently exceeding. The resort has achieved this with practices that include placing a sensor on each terrace door that automatically shuts off the cold water valve when the guest leaves the guestroom door ajar, and by launching a Pool Efficiency Project to construct a large cistern that uses only three high-efficiency variable speed pumps (saving up to 50 percent energy), three electrical heaters, and three gas heaters to heat the water for each plunge pool.

In addition, The Resort at Pedregal has reduced its carbon footprint in the first half of 2017 by 132 tons of carbon dioxide. To achieve this, the resort replaced its Perchloroethylene-based dry-cleaning machine with a new water-based machine that is in full compliance with international environmental standards, and also began to provide all employees transportation to assist with reducing a carbon footprint.
