Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya Honored with Coveted 2017 Accolades

Luxury Mexico Resorts Receives AAA Four Diamond, Travel Weekly Magellan and Virtuoso Awards

RIVIERA MAYA, MX. September 20, 2017 – Following the announcement of their inclusion in the 2017 Virtuoso® Best of the Best Awards for the first-ever Best Virtuoso Experience, Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya is honored to announce two additional awards they have just received including the AAA Four Diamond Award and the 2017 Travel Weekly Magellan Award as a Gold Winner in the category of Hospitality: Overall Beach Resort/Hotel. These highly prestigious accolades are given to carefully selected travel entities that represent the highest standard of excellence within the travel industry and are based a variety of rigorous standards.

The AAA Four Diamond Awards are among the most well-known and respected trademarks in the global travel industry. Each year, AAA conducts unannounced, in-person evaluations from professional inspectors at nearly 28, 000 AAA Approved hotels throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean to determine which properties will be awarded the prestigious AAA diamond designations. AAA offers the only rating system based on comprehensive, on-site professional hotel and restaurant evaluations using published guidelines weighted by member priorities. Following the rigorous guidelines from AAA’s professional inspectors, only 5.9 percent make the exclusive AAA Four Diamond list. A Four Diamond hotel is classified as refined and stylish, providing upscale physical attributes, extensive amenities and a high degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail. Andaz Mayakoba received this prestigious accolade less than a year after opening.

The Magellan Awards from Travel Weekly is one of the leading awards for the travel industry, distinguishing the best in travel and the outstanding professionals behind it all. Honoring a broad range of industry segments including Hotels and Resorts, Travel Destinations, Cruise Lines, Online Travel Services, Airlines and Airports, Travel Agents and Agencies, Tour Operators and Car Rental Companies, the Magellan Awards offer valuable recognition to travel organizations that represent the best in their industry. Voted on by a distinguished judging panel comprised of top travel industry professionals, all entries are evaluated against a predetermined standard of excellence on a 100-point performance scale. The highest scoring entries are selected as winners of Gold Magellan Awards, the very top honor, which Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya received less than a year after opening. Winners are featured in an October issue of Travel Weekly, one of the most influential B2B news resources for the travel industry, in a section dedicated to this year’s winners. They will also receive a custom-produced statuette made by the same company that produces the Oscar® and Emmy® awards.

International luxury travel network Virtuoso surveyed thousands of agencies and elite travel advisors to identify the winners in their 2017 Best of the Best Awards and only a very small fraction of the network’s 1, 700 partners were recognized at Virtuoso Travel Week. Editors of VIRTUOSO LIFE, the network’s multi-award-winning magazine, provided their keen insight and hotel knowledge to identify the nominees from which Virtuoso advisors voted. The 2017 Best of the Best award recipients are featured in the September/October issue of VIRTUOSO LIFE, reaching 200, 000 upscale world travelers.

“We are always striving to offer our guests an inspiring and authentic experience during their stay with us, ” said General Manager Lin Schatz. “We are very thankful to receive these important recognitions within our first year of opening that showcase the exceptional service, passion, design, culture and more that we infuse into our resort and guest experiences. We hope that these awards will encourage potential new customers or guests to visit and see for themselves what makes this resort so special.”

Mobile Technology: Relentless Innovation

Technology has become a crucial component in attracting and retaining hotel guests, and the need to enhance a guest’s technology experience is driving a relentless pace of innovation. To meet and exceed guest expectations, 54% of hotels will spend more on technology in 2018, and mobile solutions in particular will top the list of capital investments. Many hotels are integrating mobile booking, mobile keys, mobile payments and mobile check-in into their operations. Other hotels are emphasizing the in-room experience, boosting bandwidth and upgrading flat screen TVs to more easily interface with guest mobile devices. And though not yet mainstream, there are many exciting technology developments on the near horizon. The Internet of Things (loT) is taking form in some places, and can be found in guest room control systems, voice activation systems, and in wearable sensors that can be used for access and payment options. Virtual reality headsets are available at some hotels so guests can enjoy virtual trips to exotic locations or if off-property, preview conference facilities and guest rooms. How long will it be before a hotel employs a fleet of robots for room service, or utilizes a hologram as a concierge, or installs gesture-controlled walls that feature interactive digital displays? Some hotels are already using augmented reality for translation services, or interactive wall maps, or even virtual décor. This pace of innovation is challenging property owners and brands to stay on top of the latest technology trends while still addressing current projects. The January Hotel Business Review will explore what some hotels are doing to maximize their opportunities in the mobile technology space.
