Concord Hospitality Breaks Ground on Dual-Branded Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn in Greater Boston

235-room Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn slated to open in Woburn Landing

Woburn, MA. January 31, 2018 -

Concord Hospitality Enterprises has broken ground on its first property in the Greater Boston area, the dual-branded Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn – Woburn M.A. Working with partners Madison Properties and Whitman Peterson, Concord is the lead developer and will manage the property. Group One Partners will serve as the project architect, with Callahan Construction as the general contractor.

Upon completion in late 2019, the dual-branded property will feature 235 guest rooms. The Homewood Suites will include 103 fully equipped suites with kitchens for long-term guests, along with separate living and sleeping areas. The Hampton Inn will have 132 guest rooms, offering the latest upgrades for value-conscious and quality-driven travelers. The hotel will share some amenities including an indoor pool, exercise room and 602 square feet of meeting space.

“Woburn Landing is a significant project both in terms of the economic impact and the opportunities it will offer residents and visitors alike,” said Mark Laport, president and CEO of Concord Hospitality. “We are proud to work with our valued partners to bring this new dual-branded hotel to the Boston area, and we look forward to seeing the project come to life.”

The Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn – Woburn M.A. is a major part of the much anticipated, $55 million Woburn Landing project. The development will feature new restaurants and businesses, all conveniently accessible from the city’s public transportation system. It is expected to create approximately 200 new jobs and bring $1 million in annual tax revenue to the city.

Human Resources: Value Creation

Businesses must evolve to stay competitive and this is also true of employment positions within those organizations. In the hotel industry, for example, the role that HR professionals perform continues to broaden and expand. Today, they are generally responsible for five key areas - government compliance; payroll and benefits; employee acquisition and retention; training and development; and organizational structure and culture. In this enlarged capacity, HR professionals are no longer seen as part of an administrative cost center, but rather as a member of the leadership team that creates strategic value within their organization. HR professionals help to define company policies and plans; enact and enforce systems of accountability; and utilize definable metrics to measure and justify outcomes. Of course, there are always new issues for HR professionals to address. Though seemingly safe for the moment, will the Affordable Care Act ultimately be repealed and replaced and, if so, what will the ramifications be? There are issues pertaining to Millennials in the workforce and women in leadership roles, as well as determining the appropriate use of social media within the organization. There are new onboarding processes and e-learning training platforms to evaluate, in addition to keeping abreast of political issues like the minimum wage hike movement, or the re-evaluation of overtime rules. Finally, there are genuine immigration and deportation issues that affect HR professionals, especially if they are located in Dreamer Cities, or employ a workforce that could be adversely impacted by federal government policies. The March Hotel Business Review will take a look at some of the issues, strategies and techniques that HR professionals are employing to create and sustain value in their organization.
