Mexico, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. February 13, 2020

Forbes Travel Guide, the world-renowned and only global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants and spas, today announced its annual Star Rating list, presenting Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal as a Forbes Five-Star hotel, along with Waldorf Astoria Spa as a Forbes Five-Star spa."We are thrilled to be recognized with the highest Five-Star ranking alongside a portfolio of esteemed resorts and spas, a true seal of success as we launch Mexico's first Waldorf Astoria hotel and spa," said Fernando Flores, general manager at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal.

"This award is a testament to our team's continued commitment and dedication to providing personalized, intuitive and unforgettable experiences alongside the finest five-star services and amenities that have made us a leading resort for more than a decade."

Previously known as The Resort at Pedregal, 2020 marks the fourth consecutive year in which the property earned the elite hotel Five Star award, and the third consecutive year in which the spa has earned the Five Star accolade. Recently transitioning to Waldorf Astoria's first hotel in Mexico, the resort is situated on Cabo San Lucas' most coveted parcel of land - an extraordinary, 24-acre site at the southernmost tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. The exclusive haven, accessible by Mexico's only privately-owned Dos Mares tunnel, creates a strong sense of privacy and arrival, just minutes from bustling downtown Cabo San Lucas.

Featuring accommodations including beachfront suites and ocean view guest rooms, each room features its own private plunge pool and Personal Concierge. Guests can spend their days relaxing at the beachfront main infinity pool or family pool, or enjoying the distinctive dining program with culinary offerings including Don Manuel's, El Farallon, Crudo, Beach Club and cliffside Champagne Terrace. The adventure-hearted can take on one of the Beyond The Beach Curated Explorations, which bring guests up close and personal with Mexico's unique culture and distinct marine life, offering unforgettable experiences such as swimming with whale sharks, snorkeling at the UNESCO-protected biosphere of Espiritu Santo Island, scuba diving in "the world's aquarium" of Cabo Pulmo Marine Park, making homemade traditional Mexican cuisine and more.

The resort also features the Five Star awarded Waldorf Astoria Spa drawing inspiration from the lunar cycle, the sea and authentic Mexican folk healing. Dedicated to rest, rejuvenation and natural healing, the spa features 10 private treatment rooms surrounding a private pool and waterfalls, and offers world-class holistic therapies, massages, facials, body treatments, nail services and more. The Waldorf Astoria Spa dives deep into thoughtful healing practices by offering treatments that also include local curanderos, shamans, energy cleansing rituals, craniosacral therapy, and advanced skincare treatments with tridimensional experiences. Signature Mexican folk treatments include The Intention and the Aloe Sun Healer, which utilize ingredients harvested on-property for their sacred and restorative qualities, along with a collection of treatments inspired by lunar phases: The Awakening Moon, The Nourishing Moon, The Calming Moon and The Resorting Moon.

"We have been committed to championing genuine Five-Star service for more than 60 years, and this year's winners, as always, exemplify the very highest standards in hospitality," said Filip Boyen, CEO of Forbes Travel Guide.

"It is difficult to earn a Forbes Travel Guide rating, and all our Star-Rated winners have shown how incredibly deserving they are of their accolades by demonstrating sheer dedication in their passion for service. We congratulate them all."

Eco-Friendly Practices: Creative Innovation

Being eco-friendly is no longer a fad. It is an urgent planetary need and hotels are actively doing their part to reduce their carbon footprint by implementing sustainable, green practices. In addition to the goodwill derived from doing the right thing, hotels are also realizing the benefits to their business. A large percentage of Millennials expect hotels to be eco-friendly and will only patronize those properties that are proudly conforming. Consequently, more hotels are realizing that sustainability is a key element in a successful branding strategy. In addition, going green can lead to a more profitable bottom line, as savings on electricity, water and cleaning materials can add up. Also, there are other advantages that come with being an eco-friendly business, such as government subsidies and tax and loan incentives. As a result, many hotels are finding innovative ways to integrate eco-friendly practices into their business. Geo-thermal energy systems, along with energy-from-waste systems, are being used to heat and cool the property. Passive solar panels, green roofs, natural lighting and natural ventilation strategies also assist in energy conservation. Low-flow water systems and plumbing fixtures make a contribution, as does eco-friendly hardwood flooring, and energy efficient televisions and appliances throughout the property. In addition, some hotels have implemented in-room recycling programs, and only provide all-natural, personal care items. One hotel has actually constructed a bee-keeping operation on their grounds. Not only is this good for the bees but the hotel also produces products from the operation which they sell. This kind of creative innovation also holds enormous appeal to guests. The May issue of the Hotel Business Review will document what some hotels are doing to integrate sustainable practices into their operations and how they are benefiting from them.
