Hawks Cay Resort Names DSM

JUNE 27, 2007. A 21-year veteran of the hotel industry, with extensive experience in the exclusive luxury market at resorts like Miami Beach's Delano and Shore Club, Joe Derks has been named Director of Sales & Marketing for Hawks Cay Resort in Duck Key, Florida. Derks will play a vital role in the resort's repositioning following a $30 million renovation that begins in August, 2007.

Zeuske, President and Chief Operating Officer of Northview Hotel Group Management, the new management company for Hawks Cay. "He is able to draw upon his experience with global vision and strategies and implement them on a personalized level to provide the Hawks Cay guest with a custom, luxury experience."

Derk's hotel experience includes serving as Executive Vice President, Hotels Division for Taplin and Associates where he acted as Vice President Sales & Marketing for the Sagamore Hotel in Miami Beach, implementing a complete re-positioning in the South Beach market through a new branding campaign. He also served as Vice President Sales & Marketing with Lifestar Hotels, a joint venture with Hard Rock, Inc. and Sol Melia International. Derks was integral to developing a comprehensive brand plan for the new Hard Rock Hotel Concept and marketing strategies for the Hard Rock Hotel Madrid and Royal Palm Melia Miami.

In 1999, Derks joined Ian Schrager Hotels, rising to Managing Director of Global Sales where he managed satellite offices in New York, Los Angeles, London and Miami and was responsible for sales and marketing strategies for the take over of The Shore Club in Miami Beach and the development of the Delano into a household name among chic and trendy travelers.

Derks spent nine years with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts where he served as Sales Manager for the Four Seasons Newport Beach, Sales Manager for the Chicago Worldwide Sales Office and Associate Regional Director of Sales for the Los Angeles Worldwide Sales Office.
