NEW ORLEANS, LA, September 15, 2005. "As New Orleans starts the challenging process of recovery, we felt it important to open as soon as possible. The impact of events following the hurricane has been much greater than anybody initially expected, so we are keen to start providing a degree of normalcy to our staff and the community," said Simon Sherwood, President of Orient-Express Hotels. "The hotel has been integral part of the city for over 25 years."

The Windsor Court was fortunate. Over 80% percent of the rooms were undamaged. The hotel was not affected by flooding and was able to evacuate all guests and staff safely shortly after the storm. The hotel's recovery and reconstruction team has already completed a thorough engineering review and begun repairs. City power has been restored and the hotel believes that potable water will follow in a matter of days.

"The hotel will open in stages from 1st November and the room inventory will increase as staffing levels are brought up," explained Dean Andrews, Vice President North America for Orient-Express Hotels. "When the hotel re-opens, food, beverage and housekeeping services will be offered, with some initial reduction in hours and menu selections. The hotel is over 80 percent all suite accommodation with separate living room, dressing room and petite kitchen, which lends itself to a longer stay that we know is an immediate customer need."

The Windsor Court is already responding to initial demand for accommodation from the insurance and engineering industries as well as local corporate clients needing to re-open their businesses. The hotel will also house a number of staff to ensure guest services are maintained at the property.
