NCT's Entertainment ‘Icon’ Ad Campaign Wins Local and National Awards

. October 14, 2008

CARSON CITY, NV, June 23, 2007. The Nevada Commission on Tourism has received 36 awards, including national ADDYs, for its advertising campaign, which features entertainment icons participating in lively adventures in eye-catching outdoor settings, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki announced Friday.

The annual ADDY Awards are the world's largest and arguably toughest advertising competition, with more than 60,000 entries annually. DRGM Advertising of Reno created and developed the commission's ad campaign.

"We are honored and gratified that our icon ads have received such high acclaim from the advertising industry's toughest critics, fellow advertisers," Krolicki, commission chair, said. "Famous entertainers engaging in popular adventure activities create a memorable image and convey a strong message to potential visitors."

The award-winning ads feature Nevada superstar Wayne Newton fly-fishing in Pyramid Lake, feathery costumed Las Vegas showgirls skiing at Lake Tahoe and white-suited Elvis impersonators riding mountain bikes in Lamoille Canyon.

"A glance at one of these ads shows that Nevada offers an exciting blend of dazzling entertainment and stimulating adventure in magnificent natural settings," Commission Director Tim Maland said. "The ads help to distinguish Nevada as a unique destination where visitors can experience two compelling attractions, neon and nature."

The American Advertising Federation presented the 2006 ADDY Awards for advertisements with the best creative design. The commission's awards included three prestigious national silver ADDYs, two gold and 12 silver ADDYs at the regional level and nine gold, five silver and best of print and best of show ADDYs at the local level, northern Nevada.

In addition, the American Marketing Association (AMA) honored the commission with an ACE Award for its Web marketing campaign and two Awards of Excellence for its print advertising and comprehensive marketing campaigns.

The respected ACE Awards, presented by the AMA's Reno-Tahoe chapter, are based on the objectives, strategies and results of an entire marketing program.

The commission, which promotes tourism in all of Nevada, launched the icon ads in July 2006 as the latest generation of a campaign designed to focus on the state's outdoor adventure opportunities. Other notable entertainers will be featured in ads to appear later this year.
