Amsterdam Completes Redesign and Expansion of Marcel at Gramercy Hotel

Redesign Includes 135 Luxuriously Appointed Guest Rooms, Modern Public Spaces

. October 14, 2008

NEW YORK, NY, July 10, 2008. The Marcel at Gramercy will enter a new era with the official opening of this new classic on October 1, 2008. Having undergone an extensive structural transformation and stylish facelift that has taken the hotel from a three-star to a four-star establishment, The Marcel at Gramercy is currently in its 'soft opening' phase. New additions include redesigned guest rooms and public spaces and the renowned Bar Milano restaurant, delighting guests with discerning palates.

Design duo Goodman Charlton oversaw the interior design of the guest rooms, suites and public areas. The new design and d'ecor of The Marcel at Gramercy emanates comfort with the cozy feel of its intimate spaces. With a color palette of black, pewter and silver, with pops of lime green, tangerine and black and white stripes, the personality of The Marcel at Gramercy is one of a mercurial nature - never quite what you expect, playful yet serene, elegant yet hip. Unexpected artistic accents are placed throughout the hotel such as the larger than life African Baboon painting that has captured the whimsical nature of this charming hotel.

The Lobby is annexed adjacent to the hotel entrance with a fireplace welcoming guests. At the center of the Lobby is an oversized, circular, patent leather couch complimented by a textured, geometric, hand-crafted wall mural - a look that is striking but also calming, inviting guests to sit back and relax on arrival. Behind the check-in desk are the fully-stocked bookshelves of the Lobby Library. Guests can ask The Marcel at Gramercy's friendly, experienced staff to check out a book as they check-in or simply engage in neighborhood "people-watching" through the floor-to-ceiling tinted window with a complimentary glass of champagne in hand. At 6pm each day, the lobby transforms into a place to socialize with an elegant wine and cheese reception. .

With the addition of several new floors, this intimate hotel brings an urban-chic edge to the neighborhood with its 135 well-appointed, modish guestrooms providing views of the bustling streets of Murray Hill and Gramercy Park. The Marcel at Gramercy accommodations includes two sumptuous suites, 50 Deluxe King rooms, 35 Queen rooms, 30 Double rooms and 18 Double-Double rooms. All accommodations are designed in a chic, stylish and comfortable manner, with modern accents such as vibrant lime green quilted-leather headboards, crisp white Frette linens and sumptuous down comforters. Each room is equipped with an LCD flat-screen television, an iPod docking station, wireless Internet access and two telephone lines with data port and voicemail. After a long day in the city guests can revive their spirits under oversized rainfall showerheads with classic Gilchrist & Soames bath amenities. The newly refurbished bathrooms are resplendent with warm toned marble surfaces and flooring helping to bring a sense of calm to guests who have experienced the hectic New York streets.

The highly lauded Bar Milano is the new restaurant at The Marcel at Gramercy. The most recent endeavor by brothers Joe and Jason Denton - the restaurateurs behind famed eateries Ino', Inoteca Vino de Cucina and Lupa - Bar Milano opened its doors to rave reviews of their sumptuous northern Italian fare. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant also caters The Marcel at Gramercy's in-room dining service.

The 10th Floor features a quiet lounge area with complimentary fresh coffee and daily newspapers, plus large north-facing windows offering sweeping uptown vistas, where guests are free to read, relax, work or even host meetings and events.
