Charleston's Market Pavilion Names Gary Cohen GM

AUGUST 13, 2008. The 70-room Market Pavilion Hotel, standing proudly at Charleston's Market and East Bay Streets amid the city's historic district, has named Gary Cohen as General Manager.

Mr. Cohen will be responsible for all operations for this exquisite property hailed for its residential ambience.

A skilled professional with 30 years, Cohen is an accomplished leader with a reputation for increasing revenues and building motivated service and sales teams. Cohen's illustrious career includes twelve years of hotel senior management positions with The JW Marriott Corporation beginning in 1990. While with Marriott, he was General Manager of the J.W. Marriott Hotel At Lenox, in Atlanta, Georgia, a 371-room Marriot Flagship Hotel with a $20 million annual budget where he oversaw a staff of 32 managers and 350 associates.

Also while with Marriott, Cohen was regional Director of Rooms Operations, responsible for opening and/or acquiring 15 hotels; reviewed all pre construction plans and conducted periodic inspection of sites from North Carolina through Florida, Mexico and Panama.

While Cohen's accomplishments and awards are too numerous to list fully, he is proud to have attained the prestigious Order of The Palmetto by South Carolina Governor, the highest award presented to civilians. He has served as president of the SC Hotel & Motel Association and Greater Columbia Hotel & Motel Association.

Born in Philadelphia, Cohen received a BS in Speech Correction, Special Education from East Stroudsburg University. He is married with three sons.
