Cardiff Airport Unveils New Site At WTM

. October 14, 2008

NOVEMBER 6, 2006. On-line travel is being taken to a new level by Cwlfly.com, Cardiff International Airport's search & book website, the airport has announced at World Travel Market.

The Welsh airport is the world's first to offer global booking, providing inbound travellers with the same service as UK passengers and so supporting the country's tourism industry.

The first airport web site to empower visitors anywhere in the world to search and book all its available flights, Cwlfly.com also provides both UK and overseas visitors with the scope to book flights, hotels, car hire, and airport car parking. Prices can initially be viewed in Sterling, US Dollars and Euros, with more currencies coming online next year.

Cwlfly.com's service is powered by Travelberry software with facilitation by skybargains.com plus additional XML feeds provided by tourism organisations in Wales.

According to Peter Phillips, the airport's head of marketing and communications: "Every regional airport in Britain is benefiting from the growth of outbound passengers, boosted by the success of low-cost airlines. We took the view that Cardiff International also has a responsibility to stimulate more inbound travel, boosting the local economy. We want to play an active part in attracting inbound tourists."

Cardiff International Airport's website (www.cwlfly.com) is already a major booking engine for UK passengers booking holidays and flights to overseas destinations. The latest additions to that site make it easy for overseas web visitors to explore what's on offer in Wales and the West, and book their flights, hotels, and car-hire.

"We realised the potential for serving inbound travellers when we saw the results of Zoom Airline's bookings for their Toronto and Vancouver flights from Cardiff. Half of their bookings are from North American travellers, wanting to visit Wales and the West of England", said Peter.

"The same is proving true for our Irish and Scottish markets."

Cardiff International Airport's global online "search & book" facility has also been added to various partner websites, including regional newspapers throughout Wales and the West of England.

From that date, online visitors to regional newspapers - including the Western Mail, South Wales Evening Post, Bristol Evening Post, and Gloucester Citizen - will have instant access to the new global search & book facilities for the airport.

"We have also incorporated links and content for visitors to Wales, providing overseas visitors with the facility to explore forthcoming events in Wales and book accommodation, from hotels to local bed & breakfast", said Peter.

"Cardiff International Airport is probably unique in the world in providing this global 'search & book' approach. Some UK regional airports are now issuing brochures for local people, to sell all the flights and packages they offer: we have by-passed that option to provide both UK and overseas customers with a one-stop online service to deliver everything they might need", he added.
