ACOM Elects New President
Announcement Made at ACOM Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA
PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ, January 17, 2006. Te Association for Convention Operations Management (ACOM) recently elected a new president, Larry Wilson, general manager for SMG at the John Paul Jones Arena at the University of Virginia. Wilson officially took the helm during an awards ceremony held at the ACOM Annual Conference, which took place January 6-8, 2006 at the Westin Hotel in Philadelphia, PA. He succeeds Janice Telstar, CMP, of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, who served as the 2005 ACOM president.
"I have been with ACOM for many years and am truly honored to be elected as the new president. Together, ACOM and its membership have accomplished a great deal and helped many convention service professionals achieve success professionally and personally. I plan to continue this growing momentum and look forward to leading the association in what is a very exciting time for the industry," said Wilson.
Wilson is an active Board member and continues to play an integral role in expanding ACOM's membership on a national level. In 2005, he served as the association's Plan Manager, acting as the Board liaison to all of the various ACOM committee chairs and monitoring ACOM's strategic plan.
Wilson concurrently serves as general manager for SMG at the John Paul Jones Arena, where he is responsible for construction, marketing, operations, finance, food and beverage, and event services. The new $130 million dollar facility, which is scheduled to open in July 2006 and seats 16,000 patrons, serves as the home of University of Virginia Men and Women's Basketball teams, and in addition will host conventions, concerts, family shows and sporting events.
