Reid's Palace. Island of Madeira Receiving a $10.3 million Refurbishment
FUNCHAL, Madeira, January 17, 2006. Legendary Reid's Palace on the sub-tropical island of Madeira will close from January 16 to April 13, 2006, for a major refurbishment program and the creation of a new spa. The project is an investment of EUR8.5 million (approximately US $10.3 million).
The refurbishment covers 69 rooms and suites, improvement of the two swimming pools, creation of a new meeting/banqueting room and a spa, adjacent to the pool area. "Now is the time to rethink Madeira. The island is buzzing with opportunities - you can be as active or relaxed as you wish," said Bruno Brunner, general manager of Reid's Palace. "We invite you to rediscover Reid's Palace - we're retaining our traditional values but moving ahead with the times."
The two existing swimming pools will be reshaped with an infinity edge and higher water temperatures and the smaller pool will become freshwater, in response to consumer demand. There will be more space for deck chairs and better views around the pool. The pool restaurant soft furnishings will also be renewed.
The guest rooms will be refurbished in both the main building and the garden wing. The garden wing rooms will have a light, fresh look and improved bathrooms, while the style in the main building is more classic.
Groups and corporate events at Reid's Palace will benefit from a beautiful new conference room with a capacity of up to 150 people theatre style. Located adjacent to the main dining room, it will be ideal for private dining or special events and will also have a new separate foyer and entrance.
A spa will be created in a separate building in the gardens adjacent to the pool and scheduled to open in July. It will have four treatment rooms, each with outside space plus saunas and steam rooms. The cocktail bar will be modernized and the main entrance and reception area will also receive some light refurbishment.
