Industry's Most Promising & Passionate to be Honored In HSMAI's Big Apple Chapter Awards

New categories broaden the scope of highly regarded annual awards

NEW YORK, NY, January 18, 2006. This year, HSMAI's Big Apple Chapter Annual Awards get even bigger and better. Two new nomination categories have been added. The first is an industry operations executive, opening the door to distinguishing professionals from across the New York City hospitality and tourism industry - from tour operators to restaurateurs - who have demonstrated excellence in their chosen field. The second new award will recognize an all-star hospitality student.

Winners will be announced at the Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Awards Dinner at the legendary Rainbow Room on June 8, 2006.

The five award categories are:

o Sales and Marketing Excellence Award

o Hotel General Manager of the Year Award

o Professional of the Year Award

o Operations Excellence Award (new)

o Hospitality Student of the Year Award (new)

Big Apple Chapter Annual Award winners honored in 2005 include Eric O. Long, General Manager, Waldorf=Astoria & Waldorf Towers; Thomas G. Lewis, President and General Manager, Gray Line New York Sightseeing; Kristin Ruble, Director of Sales & Marketing, The Mandarin Oriental New York; Julie Andrews, CHME, President, Julie Andrews INK and Dr. Lalia Rach, Dean & HVS Chair, NYU Tisch Center.
