New York City, NY - December 9, 2010. Just in time for the holiday travel season, eco-friendly home fashions brand Portico Home + Spa is launching an extensive organic cotton bedding program (sheets, pillow cases, shams) at Hyatt hotels and resorts. Now available in premier suites at 14 Hyatt hotels nationwide as well as in Aruba, additional Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, and Hyatt hotels plan to add this bedding line to their premier suites in the next year. In spring 2011, Hyatt also plans to add Portico's organic cotton bath linens (towels, bathrobes, and bath rugs) to the premier suites. Hyatt already offers Portico amenities (shampoo, conditioner, and bath soap) in recycled PET packaging in more than 100 hotels nationally, making them available also at the www.HyattAtHome.com website.

The bedding program is currently offered at Hyatt Regency hotels in Albuquerque (NM), Bellevue (WA), Chicago (IL), Dallas and Houston (TX), Irvine (CA), Jacksonville (FL), Kansas City (MO), and Orlando (FL); Grand Hyatt hotels in New York City, San Antonio (TX), and Tampa Bay (FL); Hyatt Deerfield (IL); and Hyatt Regency Aruba.

The launch of these linens in Hyatt hotels marks the first step of Portico's hospitality industry initiative whereby the brand will partner with leading hotel and spa properties with progressive corporate sustainability missions.

As part of the initiative, Portico will provide one-stop-shop sustainable solutions for properties wishing to authenticate their “green” initiatives. The company offers amenities, certified organic cotton bed linens (sheets, pillow cases, blankets, duvet covers, shams, bed ruffles, and decorative pillows), and bath linens (towels, bathrobes, and bath rugs), as well as sustainable basic bedding (pillows, mattress pads, mattress toppers, and comforters).

“Given our commitment to being environmentally conscientious, it was an easy decision to incorporate Portico Home + Spa's high quality and luxuriously soft bedding products made with organic cotton in Hyatt's premier suites,” said Kevin Maciulewicz, director of rooms for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, North America. One part of the company's global sustainability program, Hyatt Earth, includes making responsible purchasing decisions.

“Hyatt knows what makes today's hotel guest happy and we are excited that Portico's bedding products were chosen to meet the high expectations of that guest,” said Gregg Haft, Portico Home + Spa president. “We look forward to expanding 'green' hospitality initiatives with Hyatt and other companies around the world, by being a one-stop-shop organic and sustainable solution provider of amenities, bed, and bath linens, and utility products.”

The bedding colors for the Hyatt program are “organic white” and platinum. The organic cotton used in the bedding collection has been certified to Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) which prohibits the use of toxic inputs during textile processing. Portico is committed to using natural and organic materials whenever possible. No harsh chemicals are used including synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or processing inputs.

Global retail sales of organic cotton apparel and home textile products reached an estimated $4.3 billion in 2009, according to the non-profit organization Textile Exchange.
