December 20, 2010 - Delta Hotels and Resorts announced its expansion in Ottawa with a new hotel, the Delta Ottawa City Centre slated to open in January 2011. Delta will assume management of the Crowne Plaza located at 101 Lyon Street on January 1, 2011 at which time the hotel will transition to a Delta branded property.

The new hotel is located across the street from the chain's existing property, the Delta Ottawa Hotel and Suites which is located at 361 Queen Street.

"We are excited to expand our portfolio in Ottawa with a second hotel in a strategic downtown location," said Hank Stackhouse, President and CEO, Delta Hotels and Resorts. "The addition of this new hotel puts Delta among the largest hotel meeting facilities in Ottawa, strengthens our presence in the city and positions us to gain a larger share of the market, particularly with meetings business."

The Delta Ottawa City Centre boasts 411 guest rooms and suites, and 25,000 square feet of meeting space with a 10,000 square foot ballroom - putting Delta among the top three largest ballrooms in the city. Unique to the property is its 26th floor Penthouse level reception area which offers the best views of any hotel in the city - featuring floor to ceiling windows and overlooking Parliament and the Rideau Canal. Other amenities include a full service restaurant, 101 Cafe and Lounge, as well as an indoor pool, sauna, fitness room and squash courts.

The hotel will undergo a $25 million renovation to upgrade the property and its amenities which will see a full redevelopment of the lobby, public areas, food and beverage outlets, fitness centre, meeting space and guest rooms. The renovations will also include a new street level main entrance way to the hotel by removing the existing ramp. This will create an enhanced sense of arrival and heightened street level presence. The renovations will also see the creation of three floors dedicated to Delta's exclusive Signature Club guest rooms and lounge which provide upgraded services and features.

The renovations will start in June 2011 and are scheduled to be completed by March 2012. The hotel will remain open and continue to operate throughout the renovations.

"Ontario has been identified as a strategic market for Delta's continued expansion," said Stackhouse. "We recently announced plans for a new hotel in downtown Toronto, and opened our doors in Sault Ste. Marie earlier this year. Guests will now have the choice of two city-centre locations to meet their travel needs in the Ottawa region."

The Delta Ottawa City Centre is ideally located in a prime downtown location and within walking distance of all major attractions including Parliament buildings, museums and the Rideau Canal. It is close to Ottawa's political and business hubs, and connected to Place de Ville, making it a convenient choice for business, leisure and government travelers alike.
