Nevada Commission on Tourism to Host Annual Statewide 'Rural Roundup'

. October 14, 2008

CARSON CITY, NV, MARCH 16, 2007. The Nevada Commission on Tourism's (NCOT) statewide Rural Roundup conference, which explores ways to build tourism in rural communities, will gather in Primm March 28-30, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki announced today.

The 17th annual conference attracts 250 rural tourism industry representatives from communities throughout Nevada to learn about emerging methods for attracting more visitors and new trends in travel and technology that help reach and expand tourism markets. NCOT also presents the annual VolunTourism awards for outstanding rural volunteer efforts to draw visitors.

"Rural Roundup is the one annual event that focuses entirely on the needs and achievements of our statewide network of tourism volunteers who work tirelessly all year to attract more visitors for the benefit of Nevada's local economies," Krolicki, NCOT chair, said. "The conference is NCOT's opportunity to share information and provide learning opportunities for rural volunteers and to thank them for the unpaid hours they freely give for the good of our state's No. 1 industry - tourism."

Primm is a gaming resort community on the Nevada-California border 43 miles southwest of Las Vegas that offers five hotel-casinos, one of the world's tallest, fastest roller coasters, golf courses, a wide variety of dining choices and the Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas shopping mall with more than 100 designer-label stores. Rural Roundup will be at the 625-room Primm Valley Resort & Casino.

Delegates will arrive and register March 28 and gather for a welcome dinner with a "mysterious twist" that they will try to solve. The general session March 29 is "Driving Traffic to Your Web Site," followed by concurrent learning sessions about "Online Ticketing," "Itinerary Building," "Welcoming the International Guest," "Opportunities You Should Know About," "Tourism Trends," "Emerging Technologies," "Can a Roadway Be an Attraction?" and "Historical Promotion and Protection."

Each concurrent session will be held twice, enabling delegates to attend up to four different sessions, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The learning program will conclude with a general session on "What's New at the Nevada Commission on Tourism and Nevada Magazine." VolunTourism awards will be presented at dinner.

The conference will conclude March 30 after a special three-hour "Branding Workshop" by nationally known destination-tourism expert Roger Brooks, who has analyzed numerous rural Nevada communities to determine the best identity or "brand" to draw more visitors.
