Cicero's Completes Renovation of Meeting Spaces in the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Oak Brook, Illinois

Renovation employs Cicero's $ensible Green® environmentally responsible and resource-efficient strategies

. September 12, 2014

PLAINFIELD, IL - September 12, 2014 - Ciceroʼs Development Corporation, a leading full-service commercial property renovations contractor, announced today it has completed a multi-million dollar renovation of more than 25,000-square feet of meeting space in the Doubletree by Hilton™ hotel in Oak Brook, Illinois. The renovation in the seven-story, 427-room hotel applied Cicero's $ensible Green® sustainability strategies to reduce operating costs and minimize environmental impact.

Cicero's $ensible Green® program is a component of the company's Renovationomix® system of project planning and execution that help it complete hotel renovations on-time, on-budget and with minimal guest interruption. Using Renovationomix®, Cicero's began the Doubletree project in June 2014 and finished in an accelerated schedule of just 5 weeks with all areas back in service.

Green Lighting Alternatives

As part of the renovation project the Doubletree's Grand Ballroom received a fresh new look and feel for the many weddings and special events that it plays host to each year. Working with the architect, Anderson Miller Ltd. along with lighting designer, Victoria Ellis of Ellis Consulting, Ltd., Cicero's changed-out 469 incandescent down lights with 407 energy-efficient LED fixtures, plus installed environmentally-friendly lighting controls for a state-of-the-art dimming system. Cicero's also removed more than 100 fluorescent ceiling fixtures and replaced them with 15 large hybrid LED chandeliers imported from the Czech Republic that meld glamor with improved energy efficiency. These changes will save the hotel up to 75 percent in lighting system electricity usage.

Fresh carpet designs and wall-coverings completed the updating of this highly functional room. Now complete, the large business/social space can be configured as a single 7500-square-foot banquet hall or divided into six smaller areas.

Accommodating the Business Traveler

For the business traveler, the Doubletree is situated close to a large number of corporate offices, including McDonald's world headquarters. To better accommodate these guests Cicero's converted the older of the hotel's two on-site restaurants into an expansive meeting facility ideal for hosting intimate to midsize events.

The former "Wine Den" bar and restaurant was completely gutted and new ceilings, energy-saving lighting, wall finishes, and trim were installed to create a space centered on productivity yet set in a modern, relaxing environment. The coupe de grace was the removal of a large section of exterior window and the mounting of glass doors that provide access to a stunning 1,500 square-foot Trex® outdoor deck made from 95% recycled materials. Hotel guests can now enjoy beverages, hors d'oeuvres and a view from the deck over lushly landscaped acres, featuring ponds and rock gardens.

In addition, fifteen lower level meeting rooms were upgraded by Cicero's with contemporary amenities to make the Doubletree more competitive with other local hotels and allow it to attract additional business meetings and conventions.

Striving to be as environmentally conscious as possible, Cicero's sent demolished materials and unused raw materials to a recycling center rather than the landfill.

"This extensive renovation underscores the Doubletree's brand strength in the Chicago market for the business traveler, as well as our commitment to the environment," said Chris Johnson, General Manager of the Oak Brook Doubletree. "We just unveiled the redesigned spaces to our valued guests who where thrilled by the craftsmanship of this transforming project."

Sam Cicero, Jr., president of Cicero's Development, commented on the project: "$ensible Green emphasizes reducing the current and future impact of a hotel on the environment, whether it is in electrical and water usage or generating waste. We hope that our clients will be inspired by seeing how seamlessly green technologies can be woven into virtually any hotel renovation project."

Ideally located in the heart of Oak Brook close to O'Hare airport and adjacent to shopping and entertainment areas of Oak Brook, the Doubletree by Hilton is a premier conference center hotel perfect for both business and leisure travelers. Fillmore Hospitality, LLC owns and operates the hotel.
