Microtel's Jose Mari Del Rosario Honored as the 2015 EY Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines
MAKATI CITY, PH. November 9, 2015 - For his game-changing role in the hospitality industry, Jose Mari Del Rosario, President and CEO of Microtel Inns & Suites (Philippines), Inc., was honored with the Industry Entrepreneur 2015 award in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 Philippines.
The theme for the 2015 program was "Game Changers." Mr. Cirilo P. Noel, Chairman & President of SGV Foundation, Inc., said that for the Philippines' progress to be sustainable, "we need more visionary entrepreneurs who bring revolutionary ideas, services and processes to the table. Game changers, who through their desire to bring about positive transformation, continually challenge conventions and create new paradigms that drive social and economic development."
Del Rosario was credited for developing a new category of hotel accommodations in the Philippines. He brought the Microtel hotel brand from the United States to the Philippines in 1998. Starting in provincial locations, it filled the need for decent, secure guestrooms where there was none. Even today, Microtel by Wyndham (as it is now more popularly known), is the only international brand hotel in most of its locations.
Del Rosario says, "To be a game changer, one must do things differently. Your business model must stand out." Microtel's entry changed the landscape of the mid-market segment of the hotel industry by offering no-frills, value-for-money accommodations that are of international standards infused with Filipino hospitality, with a promise to consistently deliver great guest satisfaction. The EY Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines is a program of the SGV Foundation, Inc. This global program was launched in the Philippines in 2003.
