The Chequit Offers New Retail & Dining Options for 2016 Summer Season

. April 21, 2016

SHELTER ISLAND, NY. April 21, 2016 - When Salt Hotels opened The Chequit in 2015, the reborn grand dame quickly became a favorite for those seeking a stylish retreat. This year guests can expect a few more updates to the property when it fully reopens for the season on April 22, including a brand new retail store called Salt Supply, new lunch and brunch offerings at Red Maple - the inn's bar and restaurant, and expanded options at White Hill Cafe, the grab-and-go outlet.

Salt Supply, launching on Friday, May 27, 2016 just in time to kick off summer, is an exciting new retail concept which is the brainchild of Kevin O'Shea, Salt Hotel's Creative Director, who has personally curated all of the merchandise. Featuring a distinctive collection of products from small independent designers, craftsman and manufacturers, the shop is organized into simple categories; “Beach Supply,” a home section called "Island Supply,” and "His Supply” and “Her Supply,” which feature unique personal accessories. Each category offers an eclectic mix of goods and guests will find one-of-kind pieces to complement their vacation wardrobe, provide a unique decorative touch for their home, or conveniently pick up items that may not have been packed in their luggage. There is also a great selection of items to choose a perfect souvenir or a gift.

WHITE HILL CAFÉ

When it opens on April 22, 2016, White Hill Cafe will add to its popular menu of Jack's Stir Brew Coffee and pastries by Baked, with more take-away food freshly prepared and packaged by the inn's restaurant Red Maple. “Red Maple To Go” will be a selection of freshly prepared wraps, salads and side dishes perfect for a picnic. To create the ultimate beach picnic, the cafe also sells a selection of al fresco dining accessories, from plates, napkins and cutlery to chic baskets and totes for easy transport. There is also expanded seating on the porch outside the cafe, so guests can enjoy coffee and a nosh before heading out.

RED MAPLE

Red Maple, the inn's bar and restaurant, will launch a new seasonal menu on April 21, which will keep many of the favorite dishes alongside some great new options, all under the direction of new Executive Chef Gayle Scarberry, who was previously the hotel's Pastry Chef. The versatile menu will continue to offer locally-sourced offerings of rustic small plates, light fare and entrees that enable diners to create their own individual experience. The 2016 season will also see some additions including lunch service starting on April 23, and weekend brunch beginning on Sunday, April 24.

About The Chequit

Located on Shelter Island, a bucolic retreat nestled between Long Island's North and South Forks, The Chequit is a historic 37-room inn that was completely renovated in 2015 by Salt Hotels. The inn's design harkens back to the golden age of vacationing on Shelter Island at the turn of the last century with a crisp and contemporary interpretation. Luxurious amenities include sumptuous beds and linens, new bathrooms with rain showerheads and bath products from C.O. Bigelow and the natural, sustainable, LA-based brand Further, and a few modern conveniences like mini fridges and complimentary WIFI. The dramatic lobby serves as both the Inn's front desk as well as the venue for Salt Hotels' signature complimentary rustic breakfast each morning. Later in the day, the space transforms into a guest-only wine and champagne lounge that spills out onto the lushly appointed porches that overlook the nearby harbor. Dining options include Red Maple, the inn's bar and restaurant, and White Hill Cafe for freshly prepared grab-and-go items and freshly brewed coffee. The Chequit is open year round with rates starting at $195 per night including breakfast daily, Wi-Fi and parking.
