Uncommon Hospitality Appoints Bethany Wade as General Manager for Soon-To-Open Longfellow Hotel

USA, Portland, Maine. April 01, 2024

Longfellow Hotel, a brand-new, 48-room boutique hotel from Maine-based, family-owned hospitality group Uncommon Hospitality, announced the appointment of Bethany Wade as general manager. Wade will play an integral role in launching the exciting West End project, spearheading hotel operations, guest services, and community outreach to cement The Longfellow's legacy as a Portland hospitality icon.

Wade is a multifaceted hotelier with deep-rooted experience in the luxury hospitality sector. She most recently served as Director of Rooms at Auberge Resorts' White Barn Inn in Kennebunk, Maine, where she ensured a seamless guest experience throughout all touchpoints of the storied property. Wade was also a key member of Auberge Resorts Collection's global task force, introducing the Auberge standards of service to new brand properties and serving on the opening teams for Malliouhana Resort in Meads Bay, Anguilla; Mauna Lani in Waimea, Hawaii; Commodore Perry Estate in Austin, Texas; and Wildflower Farms in Hudson Valley, New York. Prior to this role, Wade also held the position of Spa Manager at White Barn Inn, as well as various titles within the operations and front desk teams.

"The Longfellow will be the first independent, full-service hotel to open in Portland in more than two decades, so we took careful consideration in choosing a leader who could not only deliver a luxury guest experience for travelers, but who embodies a Maine-born sensibility and can create a welcoming gathering place for locals as well," said Tony DeLois, Co-Founder and COO of Uncommon Hospitality. "We're thrilled to welcome Bethany to the Uncommon Hospitality team, and know that her impressive background and pragmatic approach to upscale hospitality will set up The Longfellow for long-term success."

Born and raised in Shapleigh, Maine on her family farm, Wade began her hospitality journey in high school before stepping away from the industry for more than a decade to explore myriad creative pursuits, including art curation, journalistic editing, marketing and more. Her diverse background lends itself to The Longfellow's aim to elevate the hospitality offering in Portland through a focus on design, culinary excellence and holistic wellbeing.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Uncommon Hospitality team to launch The Longfellow at such an exciting time for this city," said Wade. "Having the opportunity to join at the ground level, and reshape how people experience Portland through the hotel's unique perspective, is quite exciting. I am eager to introduce travelers and neighbors to our considered approach to upscale Maine hospitality."

Located at 754 Congress Street in Portland's historic West End neighborhood, the 48-room property is designed by the lauded Post Company, their first project in the state. The five-story hotel also comprises Astraea, a first-of-its-kind wellness spa, as well as Twinflower Café, a wellness-focused cafe, and Five of Clubs, a European-style lobby bar. The Longfellow will also debut as a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, putting a spotlight on Portland's world-class luxury hospitality scene.

The Longfellow development team includes Uncommon Hospitality, Post Company, Portland based architect, David Lloyd, and his team at Archetype Architects, Terradyn Consultants, civil engineers, and Allied-Cook, construction managers.
