Public relations helps companies to build and manage relationships with their public – be it potential guests, media, suppliers or industry experts. These relationships are the foundation of a successful sales campaign so it is important that hospitality businesses are using strategic and effective PR tactics to create the most media coverage possible.
But how do you get the attention of media? How do you communicate your company's story in a way that will make journalists want to write about you?
In this article, I will explain the most commonly used items in the public relations toolkit and when to use them.

Almost everyone who is familiar with PR, knows about the press release. It is the proverbial hammer of a PR toolkit – the tried and true method that companies keep using in an attempt to communicate their stories to media. It can be a very effective tool… but only when used properly. Press releases are not a vehicle for spamming journalists and should only be used when you have real news to share.
